James Pethokoukis, the assistant managing editor for the
Money & Business section at
U.S. News & World Report, has some
interesting predictions for 2008, one of which is:
• The most profitable film will be the monster movie Cloverfield.
The key word here of course is "profitable". While other movies are likely to
gross more money at the box office, their productions cost will also be much higher. Compare
Cloverfield's estimated $30 million budget to
The Dark Knight, which has an
estimated budget of $150 million, and who knows how much
Indiana Jones 4 will cost to make! I am confident however, that Cloverfield will do far better than a certain other $30 million movie - Snakes On A Place.
Personally, I think Cloverfield will pay for itself the first weekend it releases.
ReplyDeleteI'm still not ready to dismiss the idea that this could go the way of Snakes on a Plane.
ReplyDeletesnakes on a plane was a great movie. you dont go to a movie called snakes on a plane and expect it to be good. you go expecting it to be terrible and to make fun of it the whole time.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it'll make a lot in DVD sales. Imagine how great the monster's roar will sound in a home theater system with surround sound.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe ANYONE would go and actually pay to see Snakes on a Plane at the theater, especially when they used Microsoft Powerpoint Wordart as the graphic font on their posters and ads! HaHaHa!
ReplyDeletemy snakes on a plane showing was me and 4 friends. you cant say that isnt a great deal. 4.50 to have a big screen to yourselves.
