Here are some pictures of Cloverfield billboards in Times Square.
I think
Konamouse from Unfiction said it best:
"Makes me wonder if the budget for advertising and distribution is bigger than the filming budget."In addition the the billboards, and the New Year's Rockin' Eve special, Cloverfield has been busy sponsoring a variety of TV shows on Comedy Central, Discovery, and SciFi.
UPDATE: They were apparently handing out Cloverfield cups and postcards at the Rose Bowl! Too bad there was no Cloverfield rose parade float!
* Thanks to JookNy21 for the images, Aeon for emailing me about the TV shows, and Marco for emailing me about the rosebowl!
lol i agree with konamouse, only 30 mill for the movie it self but they can go through all this trouble to get viral sites made and get a sneakpeek on new years eve on ABC plus all of the billboards poping up.
ReplyDeleteIs "Cloverfield clues" still a blog or mainly (since a few weeks) a relay for commercial advertising and all this marketing stuff ?
ReplyDeletejacques.... did you go to Glenn Hills and the commercials are clues the tanker in 1 of the commercials had a tagruato logo on it.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if they didn't bump up the budget after all the buzz of the initial trailer. First comment! I don't know what I'm going to obsess over after this movie comes and goes!
ReplyDeleteAw man. I work like a block away from the Rose Bowl... I can see the place from here. I might have to swing by at lunch time and see if they're still handing out any more swag.
ReplyDeleteThe post made by a person in an earlier thread was correct, there are new tagruato articles. and there pretty much awsome, check em out!
ReplyDeletetheres talk of a fish doing flips in the air after swimming in slusho...

=D
Okay, that billboard is SWEET. How I wish I could get a smaller version of that poster and stick it on my wall right next to my Cloverfield poster. *double sigh*
ReplyDeleteI have a thought. Paramount originally gave a 30 million dollar budget, but after seeing the hype of the trailer - they thought, "Wow, we might actually have a money maker on our hands," and raised the amount. Or, the budget was never 30 million, was that even 100% confirmed? It was always, "The budget is supposedly 30 million," or maybe it was and I'm just stupid. Finally, it could also be that the budget for the film was $30 million, but Paramount saw good things with the movie, and decided to dish some extra money for the marketing alone. They could also have a lot of money left over from the actual filming and post-production, but I just doubt that.
Either way, they've stepped it up with the advertisement.
Hehe Gabe, I have a Monstrous poster in my room. I think it would be overkill to get the Cloverfield poster as well... Lol.
ReplyDeleteTrust me, the buzz on this flick has not been seen in earnest (read: not "Snakes") in ages. MASSIVE opening weekend; $70M+.
ReplyDeletelol i took a picture infront of that first billboard after christmas
ReplyDeletei can't wait for the movie
I saw those ads when I went to NYC yesterday, it was so cool seeing them in person.I only got a picture of the banner-like one
ReplyDeleteSo the Times Square picture is of that girl from image #1 from 1-18-08.com, has anyone figured out why her face is split in two? I know this topic is super old, but it's odd, to me at least, that they're pulling this trick up again.
ReplyDeleteIt's two different people. The girl on the left is Marlena, the girl on the right is Lily.
