Cloverfield's Slusho In Star Trek

MTV Interviewed J.J. Abrams about Star Trek, and they revealed that Slusho! will be making an appearance in the upcoming movie!
MTV: I couldn't help but notice the Slusho! reference from "Cloverfield" in the bar scene where Kirk first meets Uhura. Will we see other J.J.-isms peppered throughout the film?

J.J. Abrams: No. That was sort of the only one, and it was just sort of a goof.
I09 reports that a monster similar to Cloverfield also appears in the trailer. Could it be Clover's long lost relative?

  1. Ok I might be looking too far into this...but remember when JJ said the monster was just a baby? Well look at the monster in the picture to the left...

It looks like a more developed version of the Cloverfield monster. You can really tell by looking at the teeth.

But what do I know? Im just an insanely awesome dude.

  2. I love to see JJ's originality.... i am kinda pissed nothing is fully explained and the mystery is like dead now. So I give up on JJ way to start something and never resolve it.

  3. Slusho in Star Trek? Doesn't that seem a little presumptuous to try to link a global phenomenon into your own ridiculous meta-verse? I like most of what JJ's done as much at the next guy...but Spock does NOT f***ing drink Slusho.

  4. it's not uncommon to see this kind of cross-polination.

The guys who made Idenpendence Day and Godzilla put their ID monster in Godzilla.

My first wife was a disney freak and she pointed out a heck of a lot of cross-over placements between movies. It was freaky and incredibly subtle at times. (IE: It was trippt to see 'the beast' in the Alladin movie... etc., etc.)

  5. That's different to me, though, because the Disney stuff isn't a PREQUEL. (I haven't seen the Godzilla stuff, so I can't comment.) JJ's (re)writing the history of the characters that some of us have loved for as long as we've been alive...and in the whole of Kirk and Spock's adult lives, I don't recall them ever wearing Slusho hats, discovering Dharma hatches, or doing...whatever the hell Alias is about. :)

  6. I'm very surprised you didn't do anything on this site for Cloverfield's One Year Anniversary :-(

However, there was something very interesting in the Sunday Comics of 1-18-09!

  7. Cloverfield made a hell of a lot more sense before Abrams et al started revealing this really fucked up backstory.
