Fun And Pretty Things Update - Cell Phone Problems

The FAPT website has been updated with a new message from Howard.

He mentions the phone found in the dead drop, but says that he hasn't heard from Megan yet, which probably means the phone is out of play now.

He also mentions the Soviets again, and that he used to be at SPAWAR, which stand for Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command.

* Thanks to Keith Hill for emailing us about this!

  1. He also sent out a new Tweet with an image of something. Not sure what it is.

    1. Looks like a satellite photo of maybe a coastal mountain range?

  2. Like the Portland sports radio guy? He is a Cloverfan? I feel a little better about liking cloverfield now.

  4. The more I learn about this movie, the more I think that there will be no definitive monster. I've been leading with the assumption that this will connect to Cloverfield but I think that assumption is wrong. I'm very curious and excited to see where this leads before the movie drops in a week.

This could likely be a sort of revisionist history of the Cold War. I'm getting a lot of vibes that would bring me to this conclusion. Or Russia nukes us, or doesn't. Or maybe they are arming their forces to bomb a monster. Who knows? I'm a HUGE fan of Goodman, so I'll would have checked this out regardless, but, I'm very interested to see what the connection is, if any, to the first one.

    1. I really have no idea what to expect. Seems that there's something outside killing people. Monsters? Aftermath of/or ongoing war? Slusho! Zombies?

But what the heck is the source of that bright light glowing behind the house?!

That image, and all the shaking in the bunker makes it seem like something very large is outside.

That or bombs/explosions, one of which can definitely be seen in the trailer.

    2. I have a inkling that the light behind the house will be something related to some type of armed forces. A rescue vehicle, an explosion. I think the 'roar' at the end is a bit of a red herring. I dunno, but I think it's purposefully misleading and may be the scream or yell of something more human. Definitely still excited.

  5. I posted on another area of this blog. If you typed in 10 Cloverfield Lane on Swamp Pops locations finder it brings you to a location in Tennessee, which is by Paris, TN, which has its own Eiffel Tower. It's in a place called Memorial Park, has anyone tried digging around by it, with people finding objects and clues in real life locations maybe there will be something there that will give us a clue as to what Megan got for her 13th birthday.

  7. Any chance the spy satellite shot down was the object that fell into the ocean at the end of cloverfield one?

    1. I was thinking that too.. But if we're gonna be scientific about it, a satellite would burned up upon reentry in to the atmosphere. Or so I assume. I'd guess it was extra terrestrial in origin. Either way I think plunged into the ocean deliberately as opposed to falling from space and randomly landing where it did.

      But I have no clue.

I just think if it was a satellite there wouldn't have been that much of it left when it touched down.

  8. Has anyone done research on fonts? In addition to the "bold fortura" references and the film originally going under the title "Valencia," it also appears that the person who found the Chicago locker goes under the name "Helveticatt" which is also a font reference. I don't know if this is a coincidence or something more substantial but I feel it merits recognition at least.

  10. Just a thought on the phrasing or would it matter

  11. Has anyone else really linked the site name to anything in the puzzles? Fun and Pretty things have to be hints at the passwords themselves. Pretty referencing Pretty In Pink, would set up the image that would set up the paraphrase to enter the hidden area. What if Fun was the hint at the second password/phrase? If it was the film "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" came out a few years apart from "Pretty In Pink" the film takes place in Chicago, an area Howard references in his posts and the film is about a girl who lives with a very militant parent who doesn't want her to venture out in the world. Almost like Howard's military background and Megan's mother keeping her from a relationship with her father. I haven't seen the movie in years so I can't remember if there was anything involving gifts or birthdays but maybe that is a possible lead.

  12. "NOW WE CAN TALK IN CONFIDENCE WITHOUT HER FINDING OUT. IT’LL BE OUR LITTLE SECRET." This line in the first message has been bothering me, mainly because "Confidence" seems extremely out of place. It would have been less unsettling or alarming if I said "We can talk confidentially." But using "Confidence" as the word isn't correct. It sounds as if he's implying they can talk in secret or privately, not that the can talk with confidence. I searched the first part of that an it's actually lyrics from David Bowie, in the song "Dodo" the lyrics are a bit alarming and are about a father and daughter who aren't all there.

"Now we can talk in confidence
Did you guess that we've been done wrong?
Lies jumped the queue to be first in line
    Such a shameless design
He thinks he's well screened from the man at the top
It's a shame that his children disagree
They coolly decide to sell him down the line
    Daddy's brainwashing time."

It was never released officially until a 1990 rerelease of "Diamond Dogs" though it first appeared in 1973 along side the song "1984". Maybe that could be a reference to the gift, or maybe I'm over thinking things.

  13. The phrase "in confidence" isn't all that obscure, actually.
