Cloverfield's Escape From New York

The Statue of Liberty head, shown on the back of the Cloverfield DVD and the DVD section of CloverfieldMovie.com (seen on the right), is distinctly different than what was show in the trailers or in the movie. It has been mentioned in several interviews that the inspiration for the movie was the poster for Escape To New York (on the left), so this is probably just an homage to that film.

For reference, here at the other two versions of the Statue of Liberty head - one from the movie and the other from the teaser trailer.

  1. i didn't think the head of the statue of liberty was the same from the escape from new york in the first place. if you ask me, i didnt even think of escape from new york the first time i saw this. thats just my thoughts, though.

  3. The interesting thing you'll notice is that the Statue of Liberty head in the Escape poster is WAY bigger than real life. In fact, the original teaser trailer head was the exact size of the real Statue of Liberty, but people complained that it looked too small.

  4. yeah, it looked tiny in the teaser, i guess it's because you are not used to seeing it laying in the road, lol! But i like the way it looked in the movie, much more realistic.

and now that i look at the escape poster, dang thats a huge head!

  6. Why the head from the teaser is different from the movie? And what does teaser trailer means anyway?

  7. snkbtho2: The reason the head from the teaser is different from the movie is because the head from the teaser looks crappy.

  8. My cousin, Barry Jackson, did the poster for Escape from NY originally. I can see how that influenced the Cloverfield artwork. Just missing Kurt sporting the eye patch!
