Cloverfield In Spain

Cloverfield opens in Spain tomorrow, 1-2-08, where it will be called Monstruoso. Spaniards can check out the trailer at their official movie website, and this Yahoo exclusive interview with JJ Abrams (subtitled in Spanish).

Cloverfield Sequel

There have been a few rambling here and there about a Cloverfield sequel in the last few weeks, but nothing concrete. However, Variety is reporting that Matt Reeves is already in early talks to direct a sequel, which may even take precedent over his originally planned next project - The Invisible Woman.

It's not surprising that Paramount would be anxious to make a sequel. Cloverfield broke records in it's opening weekend and even though the box office has slowed, the movie has already turned a healthy profit. Not to mention the movie has yet to release worldwide, including the UK and Spain which it opens in tomorrow.

The interesting question will be what form will the sequel take? Will it be the same event filmed by another camcorder in NY (or some other location), or a more traditional movie that could provide the answers to some the the original film's lingering questions.

Cloverfield Production Notes

Here are the full, unedited production notes that were posted earlier with the spoilers removed. I have highlighted the spoilery parts in blue, so if you already read the edited version, you can skip to the parts you may have missed.

Cloverfield and Lost

There is a Lost easter egg in Cloverfield's opening sequence. Eagle eye viewers will notice a Dharma symbol, similar the pearl station logo from Lost.

There is also a strange Lost coincidence with Beth McIntyre. She shares the same last name as Hugh McIntyre, the Communications Director for the Hanso Foundation. However, he was killed in the Lost Experience.

Interestingly, there is also an image of the Statue of liberty head from Cloverfield hidden in the new Lost ARG - Find815.com.

If you haven't been following the Find815 ARG, you still have time to get caught up before Season 4 of Lost begins on January 31!

Here is a summary from Lostpedia:

The storyline revolves around an Oceanic IT technician Sam Thomas who is intent on finding his love, Sonya, who was on board Oceanic Flight 815 as a flight attendant. Sam has been active in campaigning against the airline's decision to cancel searching for the flight, disgruntled that they wish to move on and resume business. The player learns of Find 815 through a hacked video placed on the flyoceanicair.com website.

Cloverfield Viewing Tips & Hints

I saw Cloverfield at an advanced screening on Wednesday, and last night. I won't review the movie yet, other to say it was awesome, but I'd like to offer some tips for when you go to see it.

[highlight to see spoilers]

1. You may get nauseous. I did. I didn't throw up or anything, and I was fine when I saw Blair Witch, so YMMV. The second time I saw Cloverfield, I took a non-drowsy Dramamine and I was fine.
2. Look for someone passed out on a couch at the party. It's [Jamie Lascano!]
4. Something to look for in the final scene. [When Rob and Beth are at Coney Island, look out into the ocean and you can see something fall into the water.]
3. Stay for the end credits. All the way to the end. [There is whispering at the end that sound's like Rob saying "Help Us". Someone recorded the audio and played it backwards, and it sounds like he is saying "It's Still Alive"]
4. Have Fun!

Tagruato - Ganu Attacked by TidoWave

Ganu Fights Off Attackers
Tagruato is proud to report that Ganu Yoshida, sustaining no injuries from his recent attack, is continuing his trip as scheduled. "They tried to hold down my hands," smiled Yoshida at today's BevVo press conference, "But I can still point to the stars."

Yoshida was ambushed yesterday afternoon by a radical gang as he left a important restaurant. The group was barely able to restrain Yoshida and pour a liquid over his head before Yoshida fought back, scattering the gang in all directions. Tagruato security officials believe these may be the same attackers who caused the Chuai Station incident weeks prior.

Yoshida remains in high spirits despite the incident and assures his loyalists that the stunt will not affect Slusho!'s assimilation into America. "I should really thank the criminals, " chuckled Yoshida, "Because of them, I had to postpone a meeting. Now I can extend my stay in New York. I look forward to seeing more of this wonderful city."

When asked if he feared further attacks from the radicals, who reportedly escaped after running from Yoshida's power, he responded, "No. I have nothing more to worry about from them."
