Cloverfield Viewing Tips & Hints

I saw Cloverfield at an advanced screening on Wednesday, and last night. I won't review the movie yet, other to say it was awesome, but I'd like to offer some tips for when you go to see it.

[highlight to see spoilers]

1. You may get nauseous. I did. I didn't throw up or anything, and I was fine when I saw Blair Witch, so YMMV. The second time I saw Cloverfield, I took a non-drowsy Dramamine and I was fine.
2. Look for someone passed out on a couch at the party. It's [Jamie Lascano!]
4. Something to look for in the final scene. [When Rob and Beth are at Coney Island, look out into the ocean and you can see something fall into the water.]
3. Stay for the end credits. All the way to the end. [There is whispering at the end that sound's like Rob saying "Help Us". Someone recorded the audio and played it backwards, and it sounds like he is saying "It's Still Alive"]
4. Have Fun!

  1. Is that SOMEONE....the SOMEONE we've been speculating about for the past some-odd months...
finally- we have a tie-up of one side of the story

  2. Hmmm... I'm thinking of going to see the movie on an IMAX screen (not in IMAX, but projected that big) at midnight tonight... I wonder if I'd hurl.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Why should we stay after the end credits? Is there an extra scene?

BTW, thanks for the site Dennis. You've kept us informed since the beginning.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Thanks for the tip about the credits, that's a thing you must know. I hope I can go see it. And I'm saying this because idk if my parents will let me see it:( I hope they will, cause I've been resaurching this movie all week and if i don't find out what the m monster looks like after all this, idk what I'll do! I might just find a spoiler site or beg my parents! lol:)

  5. Great tips. I usually do not get nauseous watching movies, but then again, I play first person shooters and make other people squeemish.

I have 2 guesses on the Passed Out Couch comment. One guess is female, the other male. Anyone?

I always like watching the credits straight through. I also like looking for odd names in the credits.

  6. hahahaha dramamine XD

hey and you like da movie???

    ReplyDelete
  7. Well there we have it! you've seen it!! woooo

god now you know it all i spose? :P

    i cant wait!

    ReplyDelete
  8. I stayed until the end when I saw it in Indy and there was nothing? Did I miss something?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Oh god. I didn't stay to the end of the credits. Aaaargh, i'm so angry :(

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hey Dennis, I'm glad to hear that you got to see an advanced screening!

It is unfortunate that you didn't get to go to Rob's Party though.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I read another spoiler-free review a few days ago. It ranked Cloverfield with Alien, which is dang good. Would you say that, Dennis? I suppose I'll have seen it by the time this comment reaches the public, though.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Eep! Too many acronyms in the first tip. D:
But, I will be sure to follow your tips when I go to see it.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Um.
Unless you can translate backmasking in your head...
i.e hear the backwards recording and turn it around in your head to be able to understand it...
then it's kinda pointless to wait past the credits.

This is not a spoiler, but it is backwards.
People have already recorded and reversed it and it is available to hear on the interwebz.

  14. Hey yo, I'm in the UK, so I don't get to see the damn movie till 1st Feb!! I'm still raging about that!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Anyway, from hereonin, I'm going dark. I don't want to see or read anything Cloverfield related until I get to see the movie. I'm going to try to avoid interviews/reviews/spoiler sites etc, so with that in mind, I say thanks ever so much to Dennis, it's been an amazing ride, and I'll see y'all in a few weeks!

  15. hey do they actually show the whole monster or just parts of it?

    ReplyDelete
  16. hahah someone's parents wont let them see the BEST MOVIE EVER!!! what are you? 12? heheh. [it's funny cuz its PG-13 and they're a year under-age!!]

    ReplyDelete
  17. im definitely staying after the credits!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Dennis -

Did you see the new Star-Trek trailer with it?

And also, was it good enough that you'd see it again?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Guesses for who's o n the couch:

    Jamie
    Greg Grunberg

    ReplyDelete
  20. pinkhammy: 2D movie in IMAX...not a good idea for Clover...ull get dizzy.

End credits! oh no!....those cinema cleaners chased us out. grrrrr :(

    ReplyDelete
  21. "Bon voyage, or whatever that is in Japanese!"

    ReplyDelete
  22. Stayed to the end but didn't see anything noteworthy, though someone near the projection booth did shadow puppets and got a round of applause!

    ReplyDelete
  23. wow Dennis you lucky dog! anyways i might see it tomorrow im convincing my mom to go and i think she's gonna do it! that someone im sure i have a clue who it'll be and wondering what's at the end....hmmmmm. and dramamine idk might take some just in case.

    ReplyDelete
  24. yea same here i left :(

    ReplyDelete
  25. wait, i thought it was supposed to be in real time. what is up with the may?

    ReplyDelete
  26. yo thats bull...i stayed till the end...there was NOTHING!....i just saw the midnight showing....i just have to say i was disappointed....i got a dam headache cuz the camera kept moving...i had to look away at parts....i was really hoping that it would be amazing....i still liked it alot...i was just disappointed.....i still have a feeeling its not over yet...and maybe theres gunna be some more viral stuff...i hope so cuz that ending really sucked...WE SHOULD THANK DENIS, for keeping us up to-date so we knew all the backstory when others didn't, so once again thank you Denis...hopefully there will be more

    ReplyDelete
  27. I waited till the end.. didn't see/hear anything?? and the passed out individual?? whats up with that? I don't get it...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Just saw the midnight show here in Miami.

I'll withhold comment about the movie for the benefit of those who will soon be seeing it.

I will however proclaim Miami as the WORST PLACE TO EVER TRY TO WATCH A MOVIE. In short, the juvenile dipshits surrounding me were, eh, ...less than appreciative. One retard in the back row thought it would be cute to play a little song on his harmonica during the quieter moments of the story. Rather than beat his skull in as he deserved, everyone just laughed and then went back to their text-messaging.

But, um, Dennis? Dude, one question...

What exactly were we supposed to stay to the end of the credits for?

You have no idea how angry those of us who stayed (maybe largely thanks to your suggestion) were, just a few minutes ago here, having to sit through that horrific music over the end credits...and for what?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well I stayed until the end, and I didn't quite understand. If anyone can tell me what happened, email me at politetugboat@gmail.com It's greatly appreciated!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I stayed till the end and heard something after the music stopped but people in the theater were being too loud for me to hear it.
What did it say cause i didn't see anything else after the credits...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well. I stayed til the end of the credits, and all I got was a Paramount logo.

    ReplyDelete
  32. ok this is my first post but long time visitor to rotten tomatoes...well i am a manager at a local theater, and i already saw the movie once yesterday, and decided to watch it again tonight with a friends...i dont have any visual evidence but if you watch the movie there is a spot in the film that shows where the monster might have came from...plus i have not seen this posted anywhere else

    ****SPOILERS****

At the very end of the film, when Rob, and i believe her name is Beth are making their final goodbyes into the camera, directly after that scene, it cuts to a shot of Rob and Beth at the beach. before it shows the two the camera is pointed directly at the ocean...

On the right hand side kind of above the boat, you can clearly see something in the distance falling from the sky and into the ocean, when you see it you know that its not a bird or anything, the best way to catch it, is when Beth is doing her final goodbyes, she has snot coming out of her nose, focus on that area and you will see it when it cuts to the next scene...by the way i rewinded our movie(its digital for all you smart asses) so i watched it three times

    ReplyDelete
  33. they say somthing i barley heard it everyone one who did was like wtf what r we looking 4 and u her pstsststsstst and im like heck no par 2 has to be a new camerea new people same monster new point of view oh yea anyway passed out = jaime oh yea

    ReplyDelete
  34. AT THE END OF THE CREDITS, the say something along the lines of "it's still alive" or "is it alive?"

    ALSO!!!

PAY ATTENTION TO THE END SHOT WHERE ROB HAS THE CAMERA FACING THE OCEAN. LOOK FAR INTO THE OCEAN IN THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SCREEN. SOMETHING FALLS INTO THE WATER. SOMETHING LIKE A OVAL CAPSULE!!! PAY ATTENTION

    ReplyDelete
  35. Dude, we stayed to the end. There was a sketchy sound clip, and that was it. Did we miss something? (That, by the way, seems to be the "Something Has Found Us" of this ARG. lol.)

    ReplyDelete
  36. there was nothing after the credits

    ReplyDelete
  37. good tips i saw the movie at midnight didnt get nauseous lolz saw a girl passed out on couch but coulndt figure out wat it means and at the end of the credits i think i heard a static radio sayin target is not down im i right? and can some1 tell me wat the girl on the couch meant??? i recomend this movie to everybody it is one of the best movies ive seen in a while!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. ah crap! didnt wait til the end credit!! argh! should i watch it again?!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I saw it tonight at midnight. LOVED IT! I noticed the person on the couch also...cant believe that was the only scene with that person in it..lol.

I stayed for the ending also. Sadly..I have NO CLUE what the hell the person said. All I can guess is "They all saw it." Was that it? Everyone in the theater that stayed couldnt make out what the person said.

But as for the movie. Just wow. At first I thought it was gonna be very hard to watch. VERY shakey camera. Then the bridge scene was packed full of people and I was getting aggravated cause I couldnt see crap. But after that, damn, just so good.

    ReplyDelete
  40. i stayed till the end

i dont wanna say what it is, but probably you all know since i bet everyones seen it by now.

but its kinda suprising, but not what you all think it is

    does that even make sense??

    ReplyDelete
  41. Okay, I stayed until the end but people were being really loud so i wasn't able to hear anything. I THINK i know what happened, but all of my friends said something different. therefore, i think you need to post soon and say what it was for sure, haha. :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I stayed till the end as well... SOMETHING was said by somebody on a radio, like an army officer was talking. I couldn't make out what though, people were talking all around me... WHAT WAS IT?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Umm why did you tell us to stay until the end? I did at a midnight showing here and I got nothing...

    ReplyDelete
  44. I saw it. It was good. I won't spoil anything. I'll save that for the jerks of the world. I will say, I agree with Dennis. Sit as far from the screen as possible and look away when/if you have to. Someone DID throw up when I saw it last night.

Also, Dennis, when I yelled for everyone to stay in their seats and watch til the end, half the theater stayed. Then, we all wondered why. Was your version different than ours? We saw/heard/felt nothing.

    Please explain.

    ReplyDelete
  45. OK, I'm thinking Grunberg or Jamie. I'll know at 8:20 tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  46. dennis, great thing - good job serving us with all the information nr1 site in the internet

    ReplyDelete
  47. was something at the end that i missed? the damn projector was messed up all through the last scene and we only saw half of the screen. no one stayed during the credits. if there is something big, im going to get a refund and see it again.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I stayed till the end of the credits, and I didn't see anything...

    ReplyDelete
  49. saw it last night but what was significant about the girl on the couch?

    ReplyDelete
  50. I didn't stay after the credits either. :(

But I did wear my TIDO shirt I made :D

    ReplyDelete
  51. I stayed until the end in DC and didn't see anything either. Maybe this was something special to the advance screening?

    ReplyDelete
  52. other then respect for the people that worked to bring the film to the screen, there's nothing at the end of the credits. at least not in my screening.

but i will mention to pay very close attention to the far distant background of the very very very last shot from the camera. and the date displayed.

    ReplyDelete
  53. What does FWIW and YMMV stand for?

    ReplyDelete
  54. I saw "her" on the couch - LMAO!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Thanks for the warning! Must be all the handheld cams. :-)

I actually got nauseous watching Ratatouille up in the third row, he just ran around too dang much! But I am more suseptible to that than most, I think. :-p

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wath is it after credits???

    ReplyDelete
  57. 1. I hate that I may get nauseous but as long as it's not like a rollercoaster or something, i should probably be okay.

    2. If I had to guess who was passed out, I'd say Matt Parkman from Heroes but that's just a guess... we'll see.

    3. i ALWAYS stay until the end of the credits. You never know which movie will have an extra scene. It seems like most of the movies I like do have that little extra at the end.

    4. No doubt about that.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Awesome .. I’ve been looking up reviews and info for this film, and it seems to be getting pretty solid ratings. And it’s really interesting that they’re promoting the film with the fallen Statue of Liberty..it definitely sets an undertone of the America being attacked..Maxim actually did a little bit on it.

  59. Not worth it to stay, just read about it online.

    ReplyDelete
  60. At the very end you hear SOMEONE say something.

But you can't hear it. What do they say?

Email me or something if it would spoil people who haven't seen it yet.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I stayed until the end as well, there was a voice but I couldn't tell what it was saying...

    ReplyDelete
  62. I stayed through the end, but didn't understand what was said. Any help?

    ReplyDelete
  63. I couldn't hear well enough at the end of the credits to understand what was said. What was that?

    ReplyDelete
  64. I couldn't hear well enough at the end to understand what was said. Anyone know what that was?

    ReplyDelete
  65. I stayed until the end and didn't catch anything.

What was it supposed to be?

    ReplyDelete
  66. I found this on unfiction yesterday after I saw the movie. It is of the reversed audio at the end of the movie

you can CLEARLY hear someone (might be Rob it kind of sounded like him) saying It's Still Alive

    http://boomp3.com/m/bd034dfca370

    ReplyDelete
  67. It looks to me like he's asking/wondering "Is it still alive?" due to the tone of his voice... Thank you Alex for the sample!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Oh mY GOD!!! I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE STANDING IN LINE WITH DENNIS and SITTING NEXT TO HIM DURING THE MOVIE!!! it was bad-ass... I asked him a question looking for him and I didn't know it was him til he told me... LMAO!!! he was a great sport having to listen to me rant the whole night... I'm an ass for not looking in the ocean though... hmmm... can't wait to see how long the stroy line is going to continue online... Gotta see it at least five more times today...

    ReplyDelete
  69. ***** SPOILERS*****

btw... can i just say that after watching the movie last night... I went home to look at their myspace pages and I felt so sad because I pretty much watched them all die... especially Rob and Beth after the nuclear blast.. and Hud's dead face on camera was THEE saddest part of the movie!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I don't think they NUKE'd NYC - how would the footage survive?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Jamie is the girl passed out on the couch. There is a new video on jamieandteddy.com that shows her in the same dress as the girl passed out on the couch at the party.

where did the idea of Greg Grunberg come from though?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Does anyone have any idea why the pics from the night of the attack on 1-18-08.com are dated 1-18-08 and not 05-22? It really doesn't make any sense at all.

    ReplyDelete
  73. We're gonna have to watch that again.

Thanks Dennis for keeping us up to date on this film.
It was well worth the wait.I loved it.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Theres a new Jamie and teddy Video check it out

    ReplyDelete
  75. Someone needs to get a cell phone vid or something of the thing hitting the water

    ReplyDelete
  76. This comment has been removed by the author.

  77. *Spoilers*

This movie was kick-ass. Unfortunately, at least one person said, "Wow, that's it?"
I suppose they didn't follow up on the whole viral campaign thing since this summer.

In fact, I probably enjoyed the movie more because I knew the who and sort of the what behind the monster and party, etc.; being a part of the viral thing really helps make the movie more enjoyable. This is a movie more for puzzle-lovers, and for folks who just generally like monsters, than for folks who want their plot line up front.

    ReplyDelete
  78. someone really has to get a video of that thing hitting the water at Coney Island!
    I completely missed it!

    ReplyDelete
  79. *****spoilers*****

the camera survived the nuclear blast because it was under rocks that protected it from the fire cloud. duh! thats why the camera survived. As for the end of the movie... wow! if its still alive!!! but what is going on with the viral... so what are we to conceive if the thing that falls out of the sky? is it the piece from the satellite tagruato is looking for supposedly? or is jj telling us that clover is an alien? is he from the deep? and what is that thing on 01-18-08.com? is it a whale that the monster ate or is it another monster that the beastie attacked on the ocean? is that where all the blood came from in the previous photo? and look at that bite? but if jamie is going to the party and ganu is in new york... and the myspace pages went dead and the news reports are dated dec. 27th what time frame is the movie now in? dec? jan? apriL? may? but i do think that the comic will tie in this information for us. that tagrato tanker cap-sized in the movie is tied to the comic and this will be great! i'm just like wow! those fucking parasites though... and we finally see Marlena explode!

    ReplyDelete
  80. SPOILERS...

Maybe it's just me, but did anyone actually feel really sorry for Lily when she was helicoptored out of there and separated from her friends? Granted, she survived and all, but to leave her friends and never see them again, even though she probably expected them to get on the other coptor and make it out - that'll be traumatic, I'm sure. Wonder if she'll post "Rest In Peace" comments on myspace for her friends, that'd be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  81. The camera doesn't have to survive at all: the SD card does.

    ReplyDelete
  82. if it was an sd card then why the hell did they put the line.. "i had a tape in there" in the movie? not cool... but i still love the movie no matter what..

    ReplyDelete
  83. The camera wouldn't survive a nuclear blast because of the EMP...it would completely wipe out a digital camera. It was probably some sort of bunker buster bomb (like the army was bragging about during the Iraq invasion). It would create a huge explosion that would level buildings for blocks, but not have radioactive fallout. It will be very interesting to see if the thing in the video is a clue (alien invasion?). I missed it during the movie, but I'll definitely be going back (I loved it).

My favorite part (other than the subway) is them going into the electronics store and watching the live news feed of the army vs the monster with the first appearance of the lice. It was truly surreal. Thanks Dennis, for all your hard work. It made things a lot of fun. JJ owes you a check. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  84. I just came back from the movie.. all I have to say is.. THE MOVIE WAS F***ING AWESOME!!!
It’s a must see theater movie (or DVD) if you watch it when it comes out bootlegged, you just ruined a movie that is a new moder classic.
    It is so worth 9/10.

I bet if the movie was Rated R (like it was suppose to be according to interview) I think the movie would have been twice as better and it should have been longer also.

Because they never show what happened to the helicopter she was in, did they?

Also, something funny happened. The movie kept messing up on the previews it like moves everyone turned off turned back on turned off turned back on the screen was too high, the screen was too low it was funny. After the previews finished, you know how it had those color bars that happens when a TV breaks or something?
Everyone started screaming “What The Hell?!”, "But The Movie Back On!", "REFUND!". People started leaving also, it was so funny cause they thought the movie broke or something LOL

Looks like the government has taken some sort of action.

    ReplyDelete
  86. There is one thing I have to get off my chest. SEMI-SPOILER. All the blogs, myspace pages, and dated pictures took place between November and January, yet the whole movie took place in May. WTF?!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Oh my god, I love this movie and I love how they threw those things in that us online lookers will get.

Great movie over all. It was hard to watch in the beginning, but I got used to all the shakiness. I'm just happy that we did get to see some great shots of the monster, from afar to see it's whole body, and UP CLOSE! Big time.

    ******SPOILERS******

You get the Tagruato tanker, Hud talking about maybe the government being behind it (which some people have been wondering), the falling thing from the sky, wondering whether the monster might be from space.

Now, what was up with that monster? Freaky looking, all long and lanky and fleshy and bony, walking on all fours with it's crazy long tail. And don't get me started on those parasite crabs? Like do they have some sort of bacteria in them that just randomly makes you explode?

    ReplyDelete
  88. If anyone can record the whole beach scene with the alien pod or whatever falling into the water, please do! I missed that part and now I feel... like I missed out on something?... yeah. Pretty much.

I'm almost done shaking after watching that movie. It was friggin intense.

    ReplyDelete
  90. i loved this movie. big fan of the giant monsters attacking a city. go see this.

i'm wondering if at the end of the movie, after the credits, if there are different dialog clips? i'm wondering this cause everyone is saying that they heard something different then the next person. i went to the midnight showing and we waited and all i heard after the music cut was the sound of some guy, possibly rob or a military personnel, saying "what now?" thats all that was said. i listened very carefully too.

    ReplyDelete
  91. my sister was about to killl me because there was no extra scene except that blurry whisper.... IT WAS POINTLESS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  92. The movie was intense! Blew away my expectations. People who followed the viral (us) probably understood the movie a lot better than everyone else. A plus for us, a negative for everyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Also, if you want to hear the audio at the end, go to wikipedia and look up Cloverfield. In the plot synopsis, it will have a link to a recording of the sound. It's link reference 6.

    ReplyDelete
  94. The thing falling in the water... is that the satelitte?

    ReplyDelete
  95. yes...at least im pretty sure it is

    "It's still alive."

    Satellite?

    ReplyDelete
  99. Yea, I need a video of the thing falling in the water.

Why would people think it's a satellite?

    Please explain

    ReplyDelete
  100. THis is apparently the wshiper recording

    http://boomp3.com/m/bd034dfca370

    ReplyDelete
  101. did anyone notice there is a Tagruato-like waterstamp in the middle of the screen the they saw the first explosion on the rooftop of Rob's party?

    ReplyDelete
  102. WOw i deffinetly need to see this movie tonight..even tho i already kinda spoiled myself on some parts :[..by the way i kno its a little offtopic but yahoo! says that Cloverfield was supposed to be called Greyshot..pretty cool

    ReplyDelete
  103. Anyone notice the dead parasite the military carted off when Rob, Lily, Marelena and HUD entered the makeshift military hospital?

    ReplyDelete
  104. I'm pretty sure the time discrepency between the movie and the marketing doesn't mean anything, Matt Reeves says it wasn't in real time. Plus wouldn't it look odd if we got all these myspace pages, etc dated at some other time? Could they even do that on Myspace? It wouldn't really make you feel part of what was going on, which was the whole point. My possible explanation (if it needs one): The time stamp on the pics on 1-18-08 was maybe the date they were found? That website appears to be showing future events.

I think perhaps we need to just deal with the fact that the dates don't match up!

    BUT....

If you look on a calender, Fri. May 22 and Sat. May 23 (the dates the movie takes place) are in 2009.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I just realized something. The whole date being May 22nd to May 23rd in the movie couldn't have been coincidence, because they could have easily made it for January. Then I though, what if there was some connection to lost? Wow, wait a sec, an underwater station near the island, some kind of electronic barrier, which was turned off by Desmond, an apparent enemy boat contacts the island at the end of the season, what day did the last season end? May 23rd... Wow, a connection? Could that have been the part of the bad consequence? We can only imagine

  107. Wasn't a nuclear blast at the end, you saw red fire and such with loud explosions. If it was nuclear, it would've flashed white, and there wouldn't have been noise before the camera went dead.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I've just watched it for the second time. Missed the 'thing falling out of the sky' in the first time, and still missed it in the second time! Is it really there?? I think I'm gonna have to plan for a third watch! urghh!

    ReplyDelete
  109. nuclear blast destroys the shit out of everything

the rocks on the camera would have been blown away and the camera would have melted

    and i have a question

what did slusho or the oil company or tidowave have to do with the movie? i saw it and i didnt find anything

  110. I saw Cloverfield Friday! WOW!
I also got a video of the monster off of Youtube before Paramount could. Go to my site (http://jfrocks2002.blogspot.com/) and it's the first post. It's kinda blurry, but it's just before HUD gets killed. I didn't film it BTW.

  111. I'm with LOL... what did Slusho, the oil company, and tidowave have to do with the plot? The week following up to the movie I crammed in watching all of the viral marketing material, but I actually feel like it took away from the movie experience. It was a great film, but I was too busy trying to figure out how "Jamie loves Teddy" was important. Yes, it added background to the universe... but the movie itself could have stood on its own merits.

  112. Slusho and Tagruato and TIDO had nothing to do with the movie. They're only part of viral marketing. I'm still curious if there is any connection between Tagruato and the monster. Obviously they didn't make it considering the monster's been in the ocean for thousands of years. I'm sure they just woke it up with their drilling.

  113. Yeah... I kind of asked "what did Slusho, the oil company, and tidowave have to do with the plot?" in a rhetorical sense.... unless someone could relate them. I hope there is a sequel that develops the story more. My friend was saying the large monster from the Mist shortstory carried smaller creatures on it too... I wonder if that served as any inspiration.

  114. Why does anyone trust these people with the backwards recordings?
First, most backwards replays are rubbish, it is suggestion and your brain filling in the gaps 90% of the time.
Then we have the fact that this is Cloverfield. Anyone recall the months of speculation some folks had over "It's alive" being mistaken for all sorts of other things?
I would not be suprised if this does happen to be a backwards recording, it was a joke by the crew. I think it would be hillarious if they decided to put a backmasked recording of "It's still a lion" to screw around with people.

  116. Just a brief message...who remembers the names of the satellites? ChimpanzIII and Hatsui...as in Genbu, follow the leader of analysis on this one...Wiki results:Hatsui (室宿) is a Genbu celestial warrior from Yuu Watase's Fushigi Yūgi Genbu Kaiden. He is a timid and chubby youngster of twelve. His parents died when he was nine and Hatsui had to face bullies on his own. Due to the abuse, he accidentally unleashed his celestial power for the first time and ended up killing many people. It was to defend himself, he had never meant to harm anyone, so he ran away from his village and secluded himself in the mountains. Sometime later, a woman named Fen discovered him there and befriended him. However, when Takiko and Tomite arrive to search for Hatsui, it is revealed that Fen is an assassin with a mission to kill the Genbu celestial warriors; meaning she never really cared for Hatsui.

    Sounds Familiar? Kishin maybe?

  118. so... i don't understand why everyone is going crazy over this whole nonsense about something falling into the ocean or something coming up from it. it's a boat... i think reeves and abrams tried to show some sort of foreshadowing of what was to come from the ocean. if you watch it online you can honestly see that the thing everyone is talking about is shaped like a boat and there is a stream of water following it and plus with her saying, 'i had a good day' right after they look out to the water. creeepy. [i watched that scene too many times so that i wouldn't sound like an idiot when i pitched the idea]

anyway, hope some of you will check it out.

  119. Well, here's a link on youtube that shows the big and little monsters for those of you who haven't seen it. It's somebody actually filming the movie in the theater to it's 100% accurate. I have seen the movie and confirm it's authenticity.

  120. so i haven't read ALL the comments in response to this post, but someone did say they got a clip of the monster right before it killed hud....

question, was that really the monster or a growing parasite? think about it. the monster was the size of a sky scraper and the monster that killed hud was not the monster that was destroying the city. it didn't click with me when i was watching the movie but driving home on friday morning i turned to my friends like 'wait a second....' and they all agreed.

i've only seen the movie once, i'm actually about to go see it again, so i guess i'll get another good look at it. but i really don't think it was THE monster. does anyone else agree? i may have just overlooked this in the comments and if i have, apologies.

    ReplyDelete
  121. It was THE monster. Perspective was different, maybe Hud had the camera zoomed in, blah blah blah. There was one main monster, we've not been given any reason to think otherwise. Plus, remember when Hud was running into the subway station and he caught a glimpse of the monster above him? Looked exactly the same as that.

    ReplyDelete
  122. nic: Actually when they ran into the subway it didn't look the same. It had an elongated snout, like a snake. I watch the movie for a second time last night on the internet and paused it just as the monster looks down at Hud as they run into the subway and it definitely looked different.

  123. I saw the movie yesterday and my husband and I stayed through the credits with another group we didn't come with. We all heard Rob say clearly at the end "what now?"

  124. Cloverfield Ending Credits - Spoilers

At the credits ending of Cloverfield, *spoilers* the audio from the video cam says, "Help us!". But when played backwards, it says, "It's still alive!" This happens after the end credits of Cloverfield. Assuming the speaker was Rob, he suggests Cloverfield (the monster) is still alive. This also suggests a sequel for Cloverfield 2! *Spoilers*

The Japanese oil company TAGRUATO drops a satellite (Chimpanz III) into the ocean as part of viral marketing (shown at the end of the movie when Rob and Beth were on the ferris wheel). TAGRUATO works with SLUSHO (a slush company), as the main ingredient for SLUSHO is found at the satellite dropzone (deep ocean). While searching for satellite and ingredients, they woke Cloverfield (the monster).

People who were at the party in the beginning of the movie, were seen wearing SLUSHO shirts. Rob apparently was going to be the Vice President of TAGRUATO in Japan.

The main ingredient of Slusho apparently turns a tiny fish into a HUGE whale in Ganu's (he found the nectar) dream, which explains the size of Cloverfield. *Update* The main ingredient is a deep sea nectar.

*Update* Because the ingredient was discovered on the deep ocean floor, under amazing pressure and in the most extreme cold, Ganu knew he had to serve the ingredient in a near frozen state to preserve its freshness. Thus the idea of Slush (Slusho)!

For animals/fishes/insects to survive in the deepest ocean (very high boiling temperature), they naturally have very high heat resistance. This explains how Cloverfield is able to withstand numerous bombs and attacks from the army.

Cloverfield refers to the field formerly known as Central Park. Clovers are usually prone to grow at places after bombing. Thus the term "Clover" and "field" referring to park.

*Update* Slusho is a very addictive drink, with signs of steroid drug like effects. Makes people stronger, constantly happy, have happy dreams and finally... "SLUSHO makes my stomach explode with happy!!" (Remember Marlena's stomach?)

  125. What did you just tell us exactly? And when are people going to give up on this whole "field of clover" thing? Also, I too remember the monter's face looking diifferent in the subway scene, I was more saying that the size was the same. There was still only one monster, see the toy description and comments for explanation. JJ/Reeves talked about how the monster-designer included lots of design/evolutionary elements of the creature that they didn't have time to show in the movie, I'm sure this face thing is one of them.

  126. My guess is that capsule that fell from the sky was part of Tagruato, maybe a sattelite or the monster itself... so when it crashed in the ocean... the ship then came to drag it away. Just like in the comic you see the chains around the monster. But when they did start it awoke the monster.

    Just my thoughts.

  127. yea i saw the movie and it was pretty awesome. and everyone should stay past the credits to listen. though it takes like 10 minutes, for sumthin thats 2 seconds

    ReplyDelete
  128. Whatever fell into the water at the end of the film- in the background of the Coney Island shot- had nothing to do with the monster. If you have seen the video of the destruction of the deep sea Chuai Station, it's obvious. A deep sea rig is not going to be in the NYC bay. lol.

Also, JJ Abrams confirmed that the mosnter was not an alien and that it had resided deep in the ocean for hundreds of years, dormant until it was disturbed.

Plus it was nearly a month between that Coney Island video footage and the monster's attack. What was he doing all that time? Getting a body wax?

  129. so there is a girl on the couch...she has brown dress or something on, only seen it once so no idea who she is. Can anyone fill me in??

OH and another thing, you know the brackets that have the blank spaces on this post HINT: Hilight them for a hidden message

  131. there are eather 2 monsters or the monster we saw in te begining shrunk alot by the time it killed hud. also the head of the monster that was filmed goin into the subway looked nothink like the head of the monster that killed hud. there wasnt a nuke at the end of the film i think it was def a bomb because all they found was the sd card.yes sd memory card read the black screen in the begining.

i couldnt see anything fall into the water at the end. where in the ocean like is it. left/right bottom/top? the only thing i see is a little splash at the right but it could be from the boat.

  132. tjplp01 said... ... because all they found was the sd card.yes sd memory card read the black screen in the begining.

I'm not sure why this is so confusing.

They mention the video camera uses a tape several times in the movie. The camera they used in the movie (the Panasonic HVX-200), the one that you see at the party, does not record to SD cards. The whole reason we see the flashbacks in the movie is because he was recording over Rob's sex tape.

The government is probably just storing the evidence on SD card.

  133. I've just seen the movie a second time, I watched it with the subtitles so I know that he definately says "They all saw it" after the credits. No idea what that's meant to mean but definately wasn't worth staying till the end for!

I thought the monster looked too small when it killed Hud aswell.

Not been following the hype, who is Jamie???
