JJ Abrams' Robot Shirt

On the Lost - The Complete First Season DVD set, the bonus disk contains the documentary "Welcome to Oahu: The Making of The Pilot". In this featurette, JJ Abrams can been seen wearing various Comic/Anime T-shirts. One of the shirts is this Robots design, which looks like it may be a vintage Transformersor Robotech ...?

This may have been the inspiration for the Slusho flavor robots.

* Thanks to Red Walrus for finding this, and to TinaG222 for the screenshot.

Since I haven't been able to find that shirt anywhere, I have designed a Slusho Flavor Robots shirt in the same style. These are obviously "unofficial", so they may be available for limited time - get 'em while they're hot!

There are two styles: Chocolate Rage, which is closest to the JJ shirt, and 1-18-08 Robots which has all the robots at full size.

* I was going to make one for each flavor, but the way CafePress works, you have to set up a new store for each design - which is a lot of work. However, if you really want a Blueberry Zoom, Banana Anime, etc, or you want a different product (like a mouse pad or something) just email me and I'll add it.

Become like the masters, Noriko and Ganu - GET your own FLAVOR T-SHIRT for a unique SLUSHO! experience!!

  1. Nicely done.

I have been looking at that shirt, can't figure it out (even went frame-by-frame on the DVD).

I don't think it is Transformers (the orange one has a gun in its hand). It is a two word phrase, looks like a Y at the end of the first word.

No idea, it isn't Gundam is it?

  3. This shirt is too coincidental to not be related. The shapes of chocolate and banana and number of robots on his shirt are too similar in style. It doesn't mean that it is a clue, however. It might mean that JJ's interest in robots, Gundam, Transformers finds itself showing up throughout his work. So when providing input into slusho, he may have asked for robots. That said, the number 6 theme and robots is evident yet again on his shirt and what better way to reward his followers in LOST than to give them a clue to his next project before others had a chance to figure it out by putting it on his DVD.

I'm also sure the following comments have been posted before but aside from the fact that you can adjust the size of the robot to make new drinks/robots, the size you make the robot itself dictates what order they fly into the cup on the slusho site - largest first. The 6 robots and their combination represent a code or numbers, no doubt (yes I know most of us assume this already). Changing their sizes or effectively "turning them on or off" in the right sequence will trigger an event. It's possible though that this event isn't even available yet on the site meaning that they won't enable other effects to happen until they want users to discover it... closer to the movie release date? So, don't be afraid to try Chocolate Rage now and then! As, to coin F. Gump, "you never know what you're gonna get."!

  5. The wings on the mech second from the right are not very Transformers-y. But if it were Gundam, wouldn't the wings be all spidery and spread out? That seems like the Gundam M.O. Robotech/Battletech is my guess.

  6. I noticed the addition of the banana robot results in bubbles of a different color from the overall slusho solution in the final slusho zooom robot.

  7. This shirt is from a magazine called Giant Robot. I think they are out of print now but it's a magazine focusing on Asian/Asian-American culture and art based in LA.

  8. FYI, I believe the shirt is called "Robot Army". I tried looking it up but couldn't find it. They sold them online a few years back, but I know the magazine has a booth at Comic Con as well so maybe they still sell them at the booth and Abrams just picked one up? Chalk another up to conspiracy theories. E-mail me if this doesn't sound right to you: fwchoi@gmail.com.

Those people better watch out, because both "Slusho!" and "You Can't Drink Just Six" are trademarked!
