MySpace Update - Slusho Hires Rob

Rob updated his MySpace page. He has been offered a job at Slusho!:
You can’t drink just six...
Current mood: adventurous
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

So I got a job offer, and it's everything I wanted. More money, more power, more creative freedom. I'd even have up to five people working under me, and you know how much I've always wanted underlings. One catch -- I need to move to freakin' JAPAN! The job is the V.P. of Marketing and Promotions for SLUSHO! brand "happy drink." Apparently it's all the rage in Asia. I'd be part of a team tasked with replicating the drink's popularity in the Western world. Here's a link to their most recent TV spot: http://www.slusho.jp/contest/sample/medium.html Bizarre, I know. I'm sure
Hud would love it. They want us to come up with a more accessible angle to hook an American audience.

When I said I'd be willing to leave NYC for the new gig, I was thinking maybe Chicago or Toronto, maybe L.A. Japan is a whole other extreme. I'm not a particularly worldly fellow, and I'd definitely be in store for some major culture shock. But you know what? Maybe this is exactly the jolt my lame little life needs. A fresh start, and all the clichés that go with it. I'm cautiously psyched. I told them I needed the weekend to think it over, but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna take it. I mean, I can't think of a good enough reason not to.
I can. I think we all new this was coming, and it explains why Hawk us wearing a Slusho t-shirt on the night of the party. Here are the comments from his friends:
Hawk - My Japanese friend Kuroki paid me off in Slusho once to settle a bet. That shit is delicious. I’ve been craving more ever since I tried it. Your job will be a piece of cake, Slusho sells itself. Please tell me you get a free lifetime supply or something.

Rob Hawkins - They gave me some t-shirts at the interview, you want one?

HUD - Dude I just googled Slusho, did you know they are a subsidiary of some evil oil company called Tagruato? We both know how much you hate oil (you always say “no oil” when you order a hoagie), so you better turn down the job and stay here and live with me forever and ever.

LenaDia - Gay.

Lil - Rob that’s crazy! How soon would you have to leave?

Rob - A few weeks, around the middle of the month they said.

Beth - Japan!? Oh my god, Rob! Come over this weekend so we can talk about it?
One word of advice Rob - you should try to leave on the 17th ;)

* Thanks to Harish for emailing me first!

UPDATE: Sorry everyone! I had to delete all the comments because some 12 year old ass-hat was spamming the post. Grow up, little dude.

MySpace Update - Rob's Interview

A small MySpace update today. Beth left a message for Rob wishing him luck on his interview. Is he interviewing for Tagruato, and is that how Jamie got Tagruato's phone number?

Beth - Dec 28 2007 11:48 AM - TO ROB

Hey Rob. Good luck this afternoon at the interview! I'm sure they'll love you.

* Thanks to Eli for emailing me about this!

MySpace Update - Rob Gives Up

Rob updated his MySpace page with a new blog entry. It looks like he is giving up on pursuing Beth and moving on. Sounds like he want to move far away, I hear Japan is really nice... All of his friends have left a comments for him as well, including Jamie who always knows the right thing to say :)

Monday, December 17, 2007 - I’m done

It's time for a change. I'm officially launching into a full-blown job hunt. I've been putting the feelers out for the past few weeks, but now it has become abundantly clear to me that I need to move on and try something else. I've put in a lot of time and effort only to be continuously misinterpreted or altogether unnoticed. I'm not opposed to leaving New York, if that's what it takes. Don't get me wrong -- I love this city. But there are certain elements that I need to get away from before I lose my mind. I'm sick of being the overlooked guy. Sick of being pigeonholed as one thing, when if you would just give me a chance, I know I can be so much more.

You know how you can get totally absorbed with something, and because you are so focused on that one thing, you miss out on other opportunities? I now realize that's what has been happening here. Or maybe I've known it all along and have been living in denial, clinging to that empty hope that things were going to get better. That certain things were meant to happen. Well, whether those things were meant to happen or not, they didn't. Not for me, at least.

Sometimes, you need to give up.

Here are the friend's comments:

LIL: I know you're hurting, hon. I just don't want you to do anything for the wrong reasons!
HAWK: Jeez, someone needs to get laid.
HUD: Dude you can't leave me! Who's gonna shave my back?!
LENADIA: About time. And yes, you have been living in denial.
JAMIE: Aw Robby! I'm sorry, babe, I know how you're feeling. Maybe we should get together and cheer each other up...
BETH: Rob I had no idea you were in such a funk! Call me, we'll talk about it. We're friends, right?

Of course you didn't know, that's the whole problem...

As a side note, somehow Ron [1-18-08] was able to sneak a comment past the goalie.

* Thanks to Diana for emailing about this first!

Michael Stahl-David Interviews

Michael Stahl-David, who plays Rob Hawkins in Cloverfield, was interviewed by MTV Movie News, and revealed some interesting information about Beth and the Monster.

... "Then there's Beth [Odette Yustman], [and] I've always felt like there's something there between us," he explained. "We've been friends for a long time, but whenever I'm single, she's been seeing somebody and vice versa. We've never really connected, until a few weeks before the tape begins to roll — but I'm leaving, so it was just going to end where it was."
...
We did, however, learn that the monster is not named in the movie ("We took to calling it Clover ... when the movie comes out, people are gonna name it")...

MTV: 'Cloverfield' Star Speaks At Last, Shedding Light On Secret J.J. Abrams Flick

UPDATE: Here's another interview from IESB.net:

... Rob is a 20-something guy who is not a very extraordinary guy. He kind of has amounted to about as much as people thought he would. But now he’s got this great offer for a job in Japan so he’s gonna leave his friends and this girl that he’s always kind of been in love with but has been too afraid to do anything about and go to Japan ... When catastrophe strikes, things become clear kind of quickly what’s important to him. Then he spends the rest of this movie trying to get to this girl.
...
In certain scenes, if you could physicalize something, it would give the animators something to do. Give them something to play off of really strong. Normally in a scene, you’re thinking about what you give your scene partner to play off of, but in this there was this invisible scene partner that if you did some big motion that was really going to help them, you know, it might feel ridiculous for you, in the moment, to do it but it was really to help them.
...
We only did one sequence, actually, that was mostly green screen. Mostly it was fully built sets. Then we did a good amount of stuff, actually, on-location in LA. Downtown LA that dressed to look like New York and other places. We did a shot that was literally on the grass at the Paramount lot...

MySpace Updates 12/14

A few small MySpace updates while we wait for the contest to officially go "live"...

Beth is still leading Rob on. Don't wait too long Beth, the monster is coming soon!

Beth - Dec 13 2007 5:28 PM - TO ROB
Rob I'm so sorry I have to cancel our plans again! I'm being whisked away this weekend for to a ski lodge in Vermont. It was a big surprise, I'll call you later tonight! I'm sorry, I promise we'll hang out soon.

Rob Hawkins - Dec 13 2007 5:31 PM - TO HUD
Let's wallow tonight, man.

Didn't notice this the first time I looked, since it was backdated. This would tie in nicely to the Jamie Video #6 Theory mentioned in the podcast (coming soon!)

Rob Hawkins - Dec 4 2007 2:57 PM - TO JAMIE
Hey that guy Gary I work with, the one you met at the bar last week, he asked me for your number. What should I tell him?

Also, there's a couple of random blog posts from Hawk and Marlena:

LenaDia - December 12, 2007 - Now joining The List

The chick from Always Sunny In Philly

Hawk - December 13, 2007 - 3 yards?! During the fantasy playoffs?!

How does that happen? The week before, Peterson rushes for 115 yards and 2TDs in 15 carries. The following week, facing an even crappier rush D, he totals 3 yards on 14 carries?! I HATE FANTASY FOOTBALL!

MySpace Update - Rob, Beth, and Lily

After over two months, the MySpace pages have been updated again. Everyone has been updated, except for Jamie.

In the last update, Rob and Beth had a lunch date planned. It looks like their relationship may have not made much progress.

Rob Hawkins - Dec 4 2007 2:55 PM - TO BETH
Hey what are you doing this Friday? Hud and I were gonna go see Golden Compass and we'd feel a lot less lame if you came.

Beth - Dec 4 2007 3:04 PM - TO ROB
Ohhhh, I'm sorry babe. I'd love to go but I've already got plans Friday night. What are you up to the rest of the weekend?

Rob Hawkins - Dec 4 2007 3:36 PM - TO BETH
What could possibly be preferred over nerdy epics with myself and hud?

Beth - Dec 4 2007 3:37 PM - TO ROB
I'm going out with a friend. Sorry! I'd love to hang out with you guys later in the weekend!

Well it looks like Beth is still playing hard to get, or is she already taken?

Beth - Dec 4 2007 3:22 PM - TO MARLENA
Project Runway at my place tonight! Let's hope that skinny guy in the conductor hat who cries every episode gets das boot from Heidi!

Lil - Dec 4 2007 3:25 PM - TO BETH
I want to hear about last night! What does the future hold?

Beth - Dec 4 2007 3:29 PM - TO LIL
Oh my god call me tomorrow for all the juicy deats. We'll see what the future holds Friday at Le Bernadin! Ahhh!

Le Bernardin is a four-star restaurant in New York. Sounds like Beth has an important date, with possibly an engagement pending? Poor Rob.

Rob left a few other random comments.

Rob Hawkins - Dec 4 2007 2:53 PM - TO HAWK
Hey so now mom wants us home for by the 22nd cuz we're having an early christmas at aunt anne marie's on the 23rd

Rob Hawkins -
Dec 4 2007 2:59 PM - TO HUD

Rob Hawkins - Dec 4 2007 3:00 PM
- TO LIL
Have I ever told you how much I hate your myspace page? I need sunglasses just to be in the same room.

* Thanks to Howard for emailing me about this!

MySpace Update - Rob and Beth

It looks like Rob and Beth have a lunch date!

Rob Hawkins - Oct 2 2007 10:26A
Hey I'm gonna be in your building tomorrow. We're doing a presentation for a classical radio station that has offices there (I can barely contain my excitement. At least its a better client than the stray cat adoption agency). Anyways, how 'bouts I take you to lunch?

Beth - Oct 2 2007 10:31A
Yay! I'm so excited! You certainly don't have to 'take' me, but I'd love to join you for lunch! Anything to avoid another meal with Hungry Helen. And my boss is out of town this week so I should be able to steal away for longer than normal. Call me at the office tommorrow!

Rob Hawkins - Oct 2 2007 10:38A
Ok pefect. So I'll see you tomorrow then. Let's go to a deli so I can have your pickle.

Rob's Friends on MySpace?

It looks like Jamie has a MySpace page. Here is a link to her page, and all of her friends. All of her friends have links to each other, and they have comments in each others photos.

I'll leave this as homework for you all this weekend to see if you can find anything important!

Dig away!
