Cloverfield DVD Rentals and Sales

Cloverfield was #1 last week in both DVD sales and rentals, in the US and Canada.

The Cloverfield DVD pulled in $7.5 million in rentals, which is more than the last 10 weeks of the theatrical run combined. This was enough to edge out Juno, in its second week of release. This weeks big release is Golden Compass, which bombed in the theaters, so it's possible that Cloverfield will hang on to it's top spot this week.

I haven't been able to find any sales figures for the DVD yet, but RentTrak and the Canadian Press both report Cloverfield in the top spot. Cloverfield is currently #2 in iTunes sales.

Also interesting, Michael Giacchino's "Roar" made it in to the top 1o albums in iTunes (#10), but has already dropped down to #15.

HAKAISHA - Cloverfield In Japan

Cloverfield opened in Japan this weekend, and I expect it will do well in the land of Godzilla. We should get the box office numbers in the next few days. Unfortunately for Japan, they are the last place in the world to get Cloverfield, so there experience may be quite different given all the coverage - not only will they know all about the ARG, but there are the three manga/comics as well.

Another milestone this weekend, Cloverfield will hit the $80,000,000 mark in the US. After making $40 million in its first three days, it has taken another 11 weeks to double that!

Cloverfield Box On Drudge Report

1. CLOVERFIELD - $16,750,000
2. 27 DRESSES - $7,650,000
3. THE BUCKET LIST - $4,150,000
4. JUNO - $3,060,000
5. MAD MONEY - $2,300,000

Cloverfield made almost as much as the other top-5 combined!

Slashfilm is reporting that Cloverfield should "easily coast to ... the All-Time January 3-Day record and ... set a new record for the long [MLK holiday] weekend with an estimated $52M."

Cloverfield Selling Out Midnight Shows

Harry at Fandango is reporting many midnight showings of Cloverfield are already sold out, so get your tickets soon!
