Slusho Music Remix, Part 2

It looks like Rusuden has a little competition.

IronJ146 from Unfiction has "thrown down the gauntlet" and made a Slusho! remix of his own:

This is a dancey little song I made using the sounds from the Flavors section of the Slusho page and bits of the roar. Yea, it's glitchy, clicky, unmixed, repetitive, or whatever. Seriously, I didn't spend much time on it, but it's fun.

Jamie's MySpace Update

Jamie updated her Myspace page today.

She added a new blog entry where she talks about missing a Teddy Hanssen, and LenaDia has already left her a comment.

JJ Abrams' Robot Shirt

On the Lost - The Complete First Season DVD set, the bonus disk contains the documentary "Welcome to Oahu: The Making of The Pilot". In this featurette, JJ Abrams can been seen wearing various Comic/Anime T-shirts. One of the shirts is this Robots design, which looks like it may be a vintage Transformersor Robotech ...?

This may have been the inspiration for the Slusho flavor robots.

* Thanks to Red Walrus for finding this, and to TinaG222 for the screenshot.

Since I haven't been able to find that shirt anywhere, I have designed a Slusho Flavor Robots shirt in the same style. These are obviously "unofficial", so they may be available for limited time - get 'em while they're hot!

There are two styles: Chocolate Rage, which is closest to the JJ shirt, and 1-18-08 Robots which has all the robots at full size.

* I was going to make one for each flavor, but the way CafePress works, you have to set up a new store for each design - which is a lot of work. However, if you really want a Blueberry Zoom, Banana Anime, etc, or you want a different product (like a mouse pad or something) just email me and I'll add it.

Become like the masters, Noriko and Ganu - GET your own FLAVOR T-SHIRT for a unique SLUSHO! experience!!

1-18-08 Trailer Audio Analysis

There has been a lot of discussion about the audio in the 1-18-08 trailer since my "Cloverfield On Five News" post.

Specifically, in the piece, you don't hear the monstrous roar, but instead you can hear Rob say "Shut up" in response to "Looks like you should have left town a little bit earlier". Some people were wondering if there was a different trailer in the UK. In fact, the creator of the piece for Five News, Philip Bloom, left a comment here stating:
I shot and edited the report for Five News. I downloaded the trailer from the Apple Website and edited it in Final Cut Pro, I only took one channel of audio which is the only explanation as to why the roar isn't there and you can here Rob clearly. I guess the stereo mix is quite separate. Try it for yourself.
Well thank you Philip, I did. Not being a Mac person, I loaded the HD 1080P version of the trailer into Adobe Soundbooth, and separated the channels into individual tracks. As you can see above (click for larger image), the trailer has 5.1 surround sound audio, which consists of 6 channels (from top to bottom): Left, Right, Left Surround, Right Surround, Center, and Low Frequency Effects (LFE). As you can visually see, there are some big differences between the tracks, so I invite you to listen for yourselves.

Here are 256Kbps MP3s of each of the tracks (3.4MB each):

Left
Right
Left Surround
Right Surround
Center
Low Frequency Effects

* Lower quality clips are available here.

And here are some interesting quotes that I didn't notice before:

"Anybody seen Jason?"
"Anybody seen Jeff?"
"Shut up." (or is it "should have"?)
"Get in the subway!"

Please leave a comment if you find anything else interesting (and let me know the time and which track you heard it on)!

UPDATE: I have created a BitTorrent for the files here: http://www.mininova.org/get/859322

1-18-08.com Comes Back With a ROAR!

The 1-18-08.com site* was updated sometime today with the addition of a ROAR sound, that plays after SIX minutes exactly.

Unfiction has uploaded the MP3 file to enjoy immediately, if you can't wait just SIX minutes!

The name of the sound file is VX.swf. I'm not sure if that has any significance, but there is a VX nerve gas...

UPDATE: the link above is to our mirror of the original 1-18-08 site. DO NOT go to the original 1-18-08 website anymore. The domain expired and is no longer controlled by Paramount, and someone else snatched it up to run ads with malware.

* Thanks to withoutamartyr for finding this, and to mhovis for providing the MP3.

We'll Miss You 1-18-08.com

Paramount removed the 1-18-08.com site today. The web page now points directly to the Paramount home page - http://www.paramount.com/

Hopefully this is just a temporary change.

UPDATE: It looks like you can still reach the site directly here: http://www.1-18-08.com/photos_8.swf

UPDATE 2: After going back up, and coming down again, it looks like the shutdown is over. A quick look at all the files reveals there were no changes to the code, so there doesn't seem to be any reason why the site was down.

"Fits and stops and starts. Waves and ripples and ramifications."

I got my eye on you Paramount!

Cloverfield on Five News

Five News investigates a strange movie phenomenon sweeping the States.

British news program Five News did a clever story on Cloverfield / 1-18-08 yesterday. No new information, but it was shot in the style of the trailer, and "The Blair Witch Project". Cheers!

New Slusho Happy Talk

The Slusho Happy Talk page has been updated.

All of the saying have been replaced with new ones. There are no new characters, but one interesting note in the code is that the Jellyfish has been renamed to Squid.

It seems very likely that all of theses comments are fan submitted (based on the numerous spelling errors), so I wouldn't put too much weight behind their meaning.

However, here are some interesting links for Bloop and the River Thames Whale.

Here are all of the new saying:
  • Slusho!, thanks for bringing joy to my family's life. But what are you all about?
  • Slusho is a happy time. I like it. I like it. Uh Huh.
  • How do I get some of that tasty Slusho? I'm so excited to create my OWN amanzing flavor combinations!!!
  • BLOOP!
  • This all is very mysterious. Slusho frightens me, but at the same time I want to drink 6 and be the whale.
  • I Slushoed myself!
  • Slusho! the world!
  • Have you thought about a apple or watermelon flavor slusho?
  • Is there a whale flavored slusho!?
  • Hello SLUSHO!!! Your drink is wonderful!! Such great water, with much power, it makes me zoom! SLUSHO!! Will make all the people, fish, donkey, and frog very happy!!!
  • Strawberry and bluberry are my favorites!
  • You guys rock I am a whale!"
  • Like the whale that swam up the Thames river .... we want SLUSHO here in London
  • Thanks for a GREAT night!!!
* Thanks to CloverfieldNews.com, who had the scoop on everyone!

Slusho! Newspaper is the Nikkan San (Japanese Daily Sun)

Commenter Christian has determined that the Japanese newspaper is Nikkan San or Japanese Daily Sun, a free paper from Hawaii. You can see the the Japanese text from the website matches the text at the top of the newspaper pages. Here is a quote for the English version of the website:
The Japanese Daily Sun is the most popular Japanese Language free newspaper in Oahu. It is distributed to more than 200 locations including supermarkets, major tour desks, hotels, restaurants, retail stores and 24 publication dispensing racks on Waikiki’s main street, Kalakaua Avenue. The Japanese Daily Sun provides local Japanese residents and visitors from Japan with current up to date news covering sports, politics, health, entertainment, economy, a classified section and lots more.
UPDATE: Once again Christian come through with the goods. Digging around on the Japanese version of the website reveals that the Nikkan San is also available in California and New Y.C!
The Daily Sun, since starting issue in 1984 in Los Angeles, is the daily newspaper which is regularly read in many people in south California, New York and Hawaii Nikkei society. As for the sport entertainment article from the sun Kay sport whose popularity is high even in Japan, the general article receives offer from cooperation communication, in Hawaii the up-to-date news of Japan as been able to enjoy to everyone in real time, we have distributed free.

Slusho! Orders Contain Japanese Newspaper. Cloverfield Clues?

The box that the Slusho! hat and t-shirt came in was very plain, but inside were some pieces of Japanese newspaper. I doubt they contain any clues, but it's a nice little touch. Nevertheless, I have scanned them in so they can be analyzed. I found the horse racing picture interesting, since I work in the horse industry.

If anyone reads Japanese, or has different pages from the paper, send me an email, and we can piece them together while we wait for more clues.

I did notice that page 21 has a website on it - www.jal.co.jp/happiness/ (Japan Airlines)

UPDATE: I have added 8 more pages. 3 from 1-18-08.livejournal.com, and 5 from ???. I now have pages 9 through 24.

Slusho! Make Me Look Cool!!!

I received my Slusho! order in the mail today! Everyone loves Slusho!
(BTW, that's me on the left, Dr. Albert in the middle, and Rachel Blake on the right.)

Send me your pictures wearing a Slusho! shirt or hat, and I'll make a big photo gallery of everyone.

Paramount Cease and Desist

I received a Cease and Desist email from Paramount today. :)

Paramount has learned that you are reproducing, displaying and distributing the “Cheese” call sheet on your website
...
Paramount hereby demands that you immediately remove the “Cheese” call sheet from your website.

The funny thing is, I haven't even read the call sheet, let alone posted it here. I only posted a link to the story in NY Magazine. I guess they didn't bother to actually look at my blog! LOL

I guess this means the call sheet was authentic. I'm glad I didn't read it!

BTW, I just checked NY Magazine, and they still have it posted up.

UPDATE: I talked to the lawyer who represents Paramount, and he was a really nice guy. The C&D letter is definitely legitimate, but he wouldn't comment on the call sheet. BTW, Slashfilm also received the same letter.

Slusho! Avatars

I have turned all of the Slusho! characters into 60 x 60 icons so they can be used as avatars.
