Tagruato Website Hacked!

The Tagruato website has been hacked. The title was changed to "TAGRUATO IS DESTROYING OUR OCEANS", and the regular picture of Ganu Yoshida has been graffiti-ed - adding devil horns to Ganu, a tidal wave destroying a city, and various sea life.

Interestingly, the wave and sea animals all have roman numerals hidden on them, and the sea animals have hidden words indicating type of animal it is:
  1. Tanner Crab
  2. Irukandji Jellyfish
  3. Dumbo Octopus
  4. Ogre fish
  5. The Wave, which is similar to Hokusai's "Great Wave Off Kanagawa" (神奈川沖浪裏)
I'm not sure what any of this means, but could this be the work of Teddy and his "cause"?

This reminds me of "The Lost Experience", when Rachel Blake hacked the Hanso Foundation website.

BTW, If you want to look anything up on the old Tagruato website, I have created a mirror of the old Tagruato site here: Tagruato.CloverfieldClues.com

* Thanks to everyone for emailing me about this, and thanks to Justin for poining out the fish names

  5. Has anyone tried calling the contact number for Tagruato... maybe the voice message has changed or somethin..dunno

  6. Read the wiki links for each creature. They all have quite a bit in common... they don't seem to have been chosen at random.

I haven't called it since this updated, but I did call it when the site first appeared.

  12. Here's my crazy theory:
The Roman numerals indicate stages of metamorphasis caused by the slusho ingredient. The stages may not be literal (i.e the Tanner Crab doenst change into the Dumbo octopus) the first stage may be crab-like and then the legs change into octopus-like tenticles. The giant wave apptoaching the city (Roman numeral 5) represents the last stage of metamophasis which is the giant cloverfield monster comming ashore.
Number 5 occurs because humans drilled into the nectar deposit and released huge doses into the surrounding ocean. Meanwhile, human consumption of the ingredient causes human mutation right about the same time the big monster comes to town.

  13. the crab in the image is on the table, and is on top of the globe logo... symbolism and whatnot.

  14. Actually, I think cupofjoe is right. Something happened to his right arm; look at the two photos side by side.

  16. There's nothing wrong with his arm. They've just painted it... just a little...

    ReplyDelete
  17. His right arm has been partially drawn over with some of the background, I don't think there's any meaning to it.
His left shoulder looks bigger and hunched though, but it might be a black area in the new background.

It seems to be the homepage of a German athletics proffessor, Dr. Gunter Tidow. http://www.tidow.com/bilder/

  33. Here are the locations of the Roman Numerals:

Roman Numeral 1 is on the crab somewhere near what looks like his mouth(the third segment of it)

Roman Numeral 2 is on the Jellyfish a little under his head

Roman Numeral 3 is on the Dumbo octopus on the top of his 1st tenticle counting from left to right.

Roman Numeral 4 is on the Ogre fish
on the right of his right eye.

Roman Numeral 5 is in the wave

(not sure if number 5 is really there)

I was the first one to find these numbers.

  36. i mentioned to my friend the other day that if the monster in Cloverfield is a Sea Monster, maybe it was "awakened" by Tagruato or Slusho. Maybe I'm right...

    ReplyDelete
  37. Is that a "Lv" in the middle of the wave?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Guys, it just occurred to me that basically none of this stuff will appear in the movie. If, as we have been led to believe, the movie is all handheld camera, then where is any of this information -- Tagurato's undersea drilling, Slusho's connection to Tagurato, their links to the monster, Slusho making people ill -- where is that going to go in the movie? At best, this stuff on the internet will explain stuff that the movie doesn't have time to. At worst it could all be completely irrelevant!

    ReplyDelete
  39. yea just like the Lost Experience, to give backstory. but cool nonetheless!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I guess what I'm getting at is how relevant has "The Lost Experience" been to the story of "Lost" the TV show? As far as I can tell, not much.

    ReplyDelete
  41. i wonder what sort of relationships these sea creatures have with underwater sea vents

  43. I found a new word on the new tagruato website (not hacked, you cant hack yourself) in Ganus hair on the right side of his head appears to be some Japanese Characters

they may spell Ganu, but i dont know any Japanese.

I take full credit for this, dont try to bite me off

    ReplyDelete
  44. I definitely see your 2 but I don't see the Japanese. There's some lines in his hair that show up in the original pic, is it different?

    ReplyDelete
  45. The same lines are in both pictures. You can just see them clearer in the hacked picture because the image is darker.

  46. Has Boldfutura.org been discussed yet here? It is up, it links to slusho and Tagruato, and it mentions SIX drilling collaborations, or is this OOG?

I'm curious about the search function on the Bold Futura site because it doesn't seem to function, but it could be a matter of searching for the right thing. Ideas?

    ReplyDelete
  47. So are we to believe that the "cause" is to disrupt Tagruato business and ruin them?

    ReplyDelete
  48. dunno if these pics have been posted yet or not http://www.movietome.com/movie/365048/cloverfield-1-18-08-working-title/index.html

  50. About 10 years ago I read a book called "Subliminal Seduction" in which the author claimed that advertisements are full of hidden subliminal messages placed there purposefully by advertisers to manipulate the public. His main proof was showing how the word "SEX" could be found in many print advertisements hidden in photographs. I tried this myself with various magazines and found dozens myself, which convinced me the author was right, until one day I looked at a print of a photo I had taken and printed myself in a photography class, and I was able to find several occurrences of the word "SEX" in the photo. This showed me that if you go looking for something, you will often find it, whether or not it is really there. Just sharing this story as a tale of caution for people searching for hidden messages in images.

  51. Oswald_Cornelius said... Has Boldfutura.org been discussed yet here?

    Boldfutura.org is a FAKE.

The Tagruato website was discovered on September 29, but this website wasn't registered until October 1st - two days later.

    ReplyDelete
  52. what about boldfutura.jp, last time i saw it, it was workig.
    now its not

    ReplyDelete
  53. I was taking a zoomed in peek at the silhouette behind the Dumbo Octopus, and noticed that rather than a second creature, it looks as though it could be a cast of the creature in the Earth's crust.

Perhaps Ganu's drilling dug up something "mean" with a bit of Slusho?

That is... if Slusho and Tagruato are even a part of the film.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yeah I saw that aht, I've drawn an outline here. I thought it might be swimming, rather than buried, who knows...

  55. I myself figure this whole thing will possibly give us a reason for the monster somehting the film probably wont do it seems.

    ReplyDelete
  56. On IMBD.com in the quotes section it says that an officer says "I don't know, but whatever it is, it's winning.".....and what is this i dont remember this..

    [from trailer]
Rob: I need to tell you something before this is over.
    [looks around]
Lily: I know what you're going to say. And I feel the same.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Well, we can only expect it's going to be something spectacular. It's actually making me want to wait so see this thing. :/

    ReplyDelete
  58. i thought a soldier said "what ever it is its winning" not an officer

    ReplyDelete
  59. Pinkhamster , there is a point with all this info, in the start of the trailor when rob is like "if ur watching this then u probably know more about this than i do" i think he's taking bout us who r playin this ARG. s this may not be in the movie but now we know more than the characters. well thats wut i think

    ReplyDelete
  60. It sounds obvious but do these connect directly to the sea monsters on the slusho site? fish jellyfish, crabs an whales though i dont see any ovenmitts in the hacked site lol I also am guessing the characters myspace pages havent been updated since 10/17 possible due to the writers strike. I saw them talking to each other then sending out a bulletin about Robs surprise party the week before the 1-18.
Someone take those ideas an do somethin with them.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Something is weird with the wiki info on some of these fish. If you look at the revision history on some of these, they all seem to be edited recently.

The Ogrefish was revised on November 19
The Dumbo Octopus was revised on November 21
The Irukandji Jellyfish was revised on November 22.

Not sure of the significance, just thought it was odd.

    ReplyDelete
  62. here's my guess:
the numbers represent the order of the attack! why does it have to be 1 monster??? I think this means that they'll come in turns... Evangelion-like attacks of monstrous creatues! First a Crab, then a Jellyfish, then an Octopus, then a giant Fish, and then a giant tsuami to finish it all off!!!!
and probably they wont all be up-front attacks... the Crab might attack first, go on land. The Jellyfish might sting people and make them BURST! or act in a "the blob" mannet... the Octopus could crawl under the city, and the fish waits in the shore to block any escape and/or incoming ships....till the wave finishes it all off

    ReplyDelete
  63. Ha. I like how the drawing of the octopus in the hacked version is EXACTLY the same as the photo on the Wikipedia page

this link didnt work. what's it supposed to be?????

    ReplyDelete
  68. It was the real thing. Explained everything. Is there any question left?

Tagruato found the nectar which is the seed of the monster. They took it to New York, sold it and people drank it. The Monster followed his little "eggs" into the city and killed the people who killed/drank the seed. The Seed is something that makes people explode. The only thing we see in the film is a giant, crazy monster. And this is part of the background story.

The pic was no coincidence, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hey everyone, I took the photo of the hacked Tagruato site. I put it through the blending mode of 'screen' three times, which virtually lightens it. You can see that some things are overlayed (like the wave on his left shoulder, etc)

You'll notice some different writing on the emblem beneath the crab, which is also lacking two of its legs' shadows (I think it's intentional... might create a symbol?)

Also wondering about the dark/blotchy area beneath the octopus.

Not to mention the mysterious ghostly tentacles on the jellyfish as well as the globule behind it. Not sure if this is entirely relevant, but always worth looking deeper into.

  70. The one thing I'm not getting is the comments about the monster having to do with Slusho infecting people in NY. It clearly said that Slusho had been around for years in Japan and had effects on the population, but no extreme side effects, so how would it affect New Yorkers so quickly? Also, why would the monster be following Slusho to NY when the same substance had been all over the Far East for years before? Besides, isn't that the whole point of Rob . . . that he's being hired to help Slusho get into America's marketplace (so it wouldn't be here at all yet).

    ReplyDelete
  71. I agree with you on the infection... but I think the monster actually surfacing is the reason for the infection; the monster was disturbed by the new drilling site just off the coast of New York (you can find it on the Tagruato mirror).

Or maybe the drilling company by NY might have been tainted by the creature living right by it. Anything is possible at this point.

If anyone remembers that episode of Futurama about Slurm... that was actually my initial thought when I first learned about this movie. Maybe Seabed's Nectar really is something far more ominous.

    ReplyDelete
  72. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I have a theory about all of this. It ties in nicely with everything we know so far.

In order to make this theory viable, let's keep in mind a few things about the "secret ingredient" of Slusho.

1: It has to be kept frozen. They express this pretty succinctly.

2: It has energy boosting and curative properties.

    Now, let's consider the following;

What is this Nectar is actually frozen, dormant eggs? Eggs belonging to whatever this creature is? They are taken from the sea floor dormant, kept dormant through freezing, and eventually consumed and killed in the digestive tract. Keeping point 1 in mind really helps you grasp that they really, REALLY, push keeping it frozen for a reason.

Before Tagruato was hacked, the "Note to investors regarding the RRC article" expressed that 'no seabed's nectar has been taken anywhere outside our containment facility'.

That is some volatile nectar, to require a containment facility.

So, obviously some of this gunk was stolen. but by who? who has the means? the 'cause' to do such a thing?

'the cause'? *snaps!* Of course! Teddy! That rapscallion! Upon hearing of his girlfriend's urinary tract infection, he and his group of ragtag activists stole a shipment of seabed's nectar, gave some to an RRC scientist for investigation, and he sent jamie a 'gift' that she remarked was light, and told her not to open it until the 9th.

Why? Dunno. Maybe it's to let the heat on the theft die down, maybe he plans on being home at that time.

My second point, the nectar's curative properties, set's foot now.

I am willing to bet that package contains seabed nectar. and that Teddy did NOT put it with dry ice. and that the hormonal signals coming off the now-living eggs of some insane creature are drawing it closer to the city..

    ReplyDelete
  74. I find that possible, that sea beds nectar is the eggs of this creature.

story: The moma(cloverfield monster) goes to get food for her babies

and when she returns they are gone(taken by Ganu and his ban of seabed robbers)

she sniffs her babies out and attack

    ReplyDelete
  75. wow thats a lot to go on with alot of nothing

    ReplyDelete
  76. Darian: Yes, I am gifted/cursed with a good imagination. :)

    Conversely, another theory;

Maybe the monster's attacking because Rob isn't HIS main dude.

lol j/k, but seriously, It was just something I came up with and it sounded pretty solid. The whole "game" aspect of the marketing for this movie seems to be leaning towards something being wrong with the secret ingredient.

    ReplyDelete
  77. it does sound like its going to have to do with slusho. But i figure its just going to be a slusho drilling oeration in the wrong spot that wakes the big bad beastie. which will ultimately be a message for the masses that irresponsible use of the worlds resources leads to a big ass beat down from a big ass baddie.

    ReplyDelete
  78. but i do love these ARG games I followed the lost experience even after i got to iraq

  79. I was maybe thinking the location of the various sea-life would correlate to the locations of different Tagruato sea stations. However, the tanner crab is in the Bering Sea, and the closest station is in the Chukchi Sea. Dang, thought I had something, too.

  80. This is getting really fun. Thanks Dennis for laying it all out for us, and to everyone making the efforts to interpret things!

  86. Kind of whacked, left field idea, but one that I don't think has been addressed (maybe), is the concept that maybe the Monster attacking New York is being deliberately planned by "whomever". The reason that came to mind was the Roman Numerals seem to possible indicate a series of steps that leads to the obvious destruction of a "city" by "the ocean". Seems that someone is indicating that they know of something very specific going on, by a certain someone (i.e. Devin horns) and it's obvious result. The other thing is the very specific imagery of Liberty's Head being VERY removed and VERY thrown around. Metaphorically could have some big ramifications (i.e. gonna destroy the USA with my big bad Monster). The whole "going after the babies" thing seems to have been done with the American Godzilla movie. Seems too been there/done that to me.

  89. to pinkhamster: this stuff could be in the movie. just because it's all handheld doesn't mean the people in the movie won't bother to do any investigating.

hp lovecraft stories were almost always written as documents, writings left by someone who wanted people to -know- what happened, even though they were clearly going to pass away. i think this would be the way to do this cinematically, because having a voice over or something wouldn't be 'realistic'.
that is to say, the way those stories are written, if you dressed them up the right way, they'd seem like historical documents. the way this movie is made, with the right dressing, it could pass for historical documents (like blair witch, except blair witch failed miserably at it).

that said, i don't mean to imply that this is a lovecraft film.

  90. to keith:

i discussed this topic, or tried to, on the IMDB forums and got no response at all. i think that monster will obviously be the "villain" in this film, but that the story could start to follow the tagruato ceo and something he's "done." i dunno. that's just my thought. if the whole thing weren't filmed in handheld, i would foresee a confrontation scene with dialouge like, "Do you know wht you've done?!" And a calm tagruato (his name still slips my mind) explaining the whole seabed nectar thing and saying he didn't mean for this to happen etc. i don't think we're gonna' get that, but it'd be cool though.

    ReplyDelete
  91. The slusho looking iGoogle header I got in Chicago at around 3 am. I now realize that they're bringing the "monster" a nice cup of warm milk because he/she's having trouble sleeping.

  94. First time post, sure it's all been said but here goes.
    1. Slusho website says they put raw egg in Slusho to give it more energy. So the idea that the deep sea ingredient is eggs makes sense
    2. In Slusho history Noriko Yashida created drinks and disappeard at sea looking for a new ingredient. Her son Ganu Yashida took over, discovered the deep sea ingredient and used it to invent Slusho. The man in the Tagruato picture is Ganu Yashida so maybe the monster is his missing relative. Additionally, Ganu was the first to try the deep sea ingredient so maybe he's partly morphed/changed...depends on how much he drank. In any case his entire corporation may have motivation to change everyone else if they've already been affected.
    3. Has anyone tried to superimpose the doctored Tagruato picture over the movie poster? It seems like he's standing like the statue of liberty and the path of destruction lines up with the Tagruato picture...wondering if anything is there?

  96. Hello
Go and have a look on wikipedia, type "cryptobiosis". There are two very interesting animals, that can resist almost anything (dessication, high temperatures, extreme heat), and come back to life in some conditions. The most common species are the tardigrade, or "water-bear", and a small shrimp nicknamed the sea-monkey. You'll find interesting pictures on wikipedia.
I forgot, another detail, they are found in sea bed sediments, and a bear and a monkey appear on the slusho site.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Another animal, found on the same wikipedia article: the nématode (a worm). there's an excerpt:

  99. In the Graffiti picture, it looks like his body has been double pasted, with the left portion of the bottom pic visible, especially the part between the head and shoulder where you see the neck contrasted with the top picture.

  100. First at all, excuse me for my poor english ;D

I was curious aboout downloading the "fake image" and open it on the photoshop to get a closer examination.

First I applied more brithness and constrast and then I looked at the different colour channels (R,G,B) because sometimes It reveals hidden things (specially in tradicional painted pictures)

I found this on the octopus

  102. Hey, I've never posted here so I'd like to say thanks for making this site. I just now got into the whole Cloverfield thing.

Someone's already brought this up probably but has anyone thought about the Slusho slogan?

    "You Can't Drink Just Six"

Perhaps after ingesting the nectar it becomes addictive?

Like I said, this was probably brought up early on.
