Will The WGA Strike Impact Cloverfield?

The writers in Hollywood (WGA) have officially begun their strike today. This means NO new material for your favorite movies or TV shows, although TV will be hit the hardest. Starting today all "live scripted" shows will be in reruns, which means no new Letterman, Leno, Daily Show, Colbert Report, or even SNL.

The current crop of fall season TV shows have four to five shows "in the can", with another one to five scripts already written that could be filmed - that is, "if scripts are in tip-top shape and can shoot without any changes". After that, the season will have to end early.

The big question here is, how will this affect Cloverfield?

The movie itself has already been filmed and should be in "post". The only thing that might be affected is if any scenes need to be changed or re-shot, there would be no writers around to help.

The future of Cloverfield "ARG" however seems uncertain. While there is probably a outline for what they want to accomplish, I doubt there is an entire script already written out. In the Lost Experience ARG, one of the writers of the show (Javi) was the "main dude" running the show. There already hasn't been any updates in over two weeks. Hopefully, they have been using this time to stockpile something so this can continue until the movie release.

If we are lucky, the ARG was subbed out to a marketing firm, like Hi-Res (the company that ran The Lost Experience), and won't be affected by the strike.

Knock on wood (six times for good luck!)

BTW, The reasons for the strike are complicated, but the main sticking points are the WGA wanting a bigger cut of DVD sales and the "nets" not wanting to pay for TV shows watched online, which they consider "promotional".

  1. Check this out. Click on the second trailer for The Mist at http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809834165/video/3906309/
They use the same audio clip at 0:43 as in the Cloverfield trailer at 1:12!

  2. The ARG is the only thing I see being in major jepordy...

And you're right, it may be the reason for the recent lack of updates. Any memeber is not allowed to write until the strike is over, even if they want to...(90% of 14,000 endorsing the strike leaves a lot of people not wanting it at all... but now they're stuck too)

And remember, this has been on people's minds for weeks. It wouldnt be unlikely that certain writers had to be on other projects trying the get them out and lost focus/priority on the Cloverfield ARG...

Hell, we're not part of the WGA, they should hire some of us to finish it out? ::nudge::

    Confirms the Beowulf trailer?

C'mon, are we agreeing that we can
see trailer #2 before Beowulf or not?

  6. I think that everyone feels justified to agree the new trailer is coming soon because of the sources... (Even JJ said new trailers and a Title is coming "soon")

But we definitely have our suspicions. I feel that the lack of updates for ARG or the movie may allow us to accept speculations easier. Really, until I see it, or unless JJ says it'll be there, its still speculation in my eyes...

Well... now that it's on 1-18-08news.com, we know for certain that it is NOT true! ;)

That's the thing, there are no "sources" - there's only ONE source. Only one site is the source of the Beowulf rumor, and every other story is quoting the same source. It makes logical sense that the trailer will be with Beowulf, but I think they are just gambling that they will be right, without having any actual knowledge.

The same is true for the Chud story. That guy is the only guy in the world who has seen the second trailer, and his story sounds just like other rumors we have heard before? I'm just not buying it. The story is so weaseley too. I could have just as easily made up a viewing of the trailer, and claim that the trailer could change by the time you see it.

I know... But nearly all of our "trusted" sources are pointing to that one, so we tend to believe them.
(I never heard of CHUD b4 this, but I guess people respect the site)
Even sites that I tend to look at (i.e. Rotten Tomatoes) are quoting CHUD... so, I have the "ability" to believe them... I dont, but I see how people could...

And I really hope that Cloverfield isnt the actual Title... someone said: "Cloverfield? As in a Field of Green Flowers?!"

    LOL
I was so used to refering it as that, I forgot the actual Denotation of the word...

I was gonna say the same thing...

There ARE multiple movies coming out on that date... but its funny... I see any commercial that mentions 1-18-08 (or even a date close, like the new Terminator Series premier 1-14-08) brings to mind Cloverfield...

Why 'Chuai' is the title in one post w/ source listed
by Superfuzzzz 18 hours ago (Mon Nov 5 2007 15:21:01) Ignore this User | Report Abuse

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New info that the movie is called “CHUAI”
    After the drilling station.
The monster is named after the drilling area that it came from.

I will give you my source.
His name is Guillermo Villalobos and he works on a studio lot as a sound tech.
    Guess which studio company?
He cut a demo for my band 2 years ago and we have kept in touch since.
He was working with another sound tech that worked on “Chuai”
Since the title isn’t the main secrecy issue as much as the movie, he said if I wanted to leak it he didn’t care.
He is not under a gag order so he said he could care less.
Now he thinks this will make him famous.
If anyone needs a sound engineer for a studio he would like me to refer him.

I asked about a conspiracy theory and he said from what he understood the
drilling station is attacked and the attack is referred to vaguely as the “Chuai Station Incident”
When its learned what happened, they simply describe what they know is an “aggressive unknown living organism” as “Chuai” It isn’t clear where its heading until it nears the east coast and appears on sonar or radar.

So I think its kept hush until New York City gets a visit.
Evidently there is a time lapse of a 3 to 7 days before the mosnter reaches NYC. And a Possibility that it attacks large ships in its path on its way to land. Which would explain why it didnt care for the Statue of Liberty.

Evidently Robby Hawkins gets word of what happened through a friend in the company (Teddy Hanssen is my guess) which to me explains why he seems not as shocked as everyone else at the party.

Thats all Im gonna get. More than I thought though.

Just an FYI: Ive known this guy for a few years and for the most part, I believe what he tells me. Although I wouldn’t trust him alone with anyone’s girlfriend. His word is usually good.
I told him that I would give his home address to this board if its not true.

    According to ClownNation at Unfiction:

The pictures belong to Special Effects artist Ken Tarallo who claims to have worked on Cloverfield. The photos came off of Ken's Forum, but they were NOT Cloverfield photos!

  23. Okay...

From now on I am leaving the
    investigating up to Dennis!

    :)

I will check back with y'all on November
    17th.

  24. I don't see Cloverfield being affected by the writer's strike. It's so close to release date now, and I'm guessing writing isn't going to be the focus of this monster movie.

    ReplyDelete
  25. From cloverfieldnews.com:

    Craigers - November 6th, 2007 at 6:57 pm
Listen to the trailer again - :38 secs in a women clearly says - wait for it - “R’lyeh”. Check it out…

    Another C'thulu reference?

    ReplyDelete
  26. If the writing for Cloverfield-affiliated blogs, MySpace pages, Slusho, etc., is done by guild members, it will have stopped. If it is being done by non-guild members, there's a strong argument to be made for boycotting it out of solidarity with the people who create the projects we love.

    ReplyDelete
  27. if the release date really is
jan 18, then i would hope the
writing was done a long time ago and
the production was said by JJ at
Comicon to be "almost done" which was back in July. I am thinking Cloverfield was in the can before the strike.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well, if we get tired of searching for clues for this mystery and posting comments about what we found and what we think, we could always go to www.cluechaser.com and do the same thing. It's starting up in a couple weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Does anyone else get the feeling that
the monster is staring at us and is so
close to our eyes we can't see it?

it's one of those "hidden in plain view"
    things. gotta be.
