In the "10 Cloverfield Lane" trailer, many bottles of "Swamp Pop" soda can be seen, and an empty bottle is even smashed against John Goodman's head.
The soda appears to be a legitimate Louisiana brand since 2013, with the website DrinkSwampPop.com, plus facebook, twitter, and instagram pages to support that.
HOWEVER...
If you click on the BUY ONLINE! link, there's something a little fishy about their online store...
The slogan on the page is "You can't drink just four!", which is too similar to the "You can't drink just six!" slogan of the Slusho website from the original Cloverfield movie.
But the biggest clue that this is related to the movie is the new item in the store, the ".Long-Term Shelter Supply" for $4813.00. The number 4813 also happens to be the number that was punched into the jukebox at the beginning of the trailer.
The description for the item reads:
This is a 15 year ration of assorted flavors, specially packaged for extended periods of dry storage—for when there doesn't seem to be anyone around. Available by special request only. One of our readers, Sarah Rose, contacted Swamp Pop about the Long Term Shelter Supply and received this response
The only other thing that sticks out at the moment is the title of the item - ".Long-Term Shelter Supply". The dot at the beginning of the title could be a typo. but also may point to some hidden page or something else..?
Let us know if you find anything else in the comments!
If you click on "Find a retailer," the location icon (with the little man) automatically pops up in southeastern Kansas. From the movie poster, the house on the prairie looks like it could be in Kansas.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if you zoom in on the man, it points to a spot in a lake in Kansas but has a location listed there for a church in Indiana.
DeleteIf you hover over it, the spot is named "New Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 2416 Pierce St. Gary, IN" not a Kansas address, though the icon is definatly in Kansas. They have a website: http://newtabernaclembchurch.com/
DeleteIf you type '10 Cloverfield Lane' into the search box it brings you to McKenzie in Tennessee. There are a number of '10 Cloverfield Lanes' in USA but if you type it into the search bar and search again it just brings you back to that one
DeleteRight outside of McKenzie is Paris, Tennessee. The town actually has a eiffle tower. If I had to bet, I would guess this is where the movie takes place.
DeleteIf you go to the location manually in google maps on street view it will bring you to a waterfall but you can also see that there is a boudin restaurant there which is a Louisiana food. So it would make sense for them to sell swamp pop. I think it showing that it is a Baptist church is a mistake on google's end. However I still haven't figured out why the icon on Swamp pop's website is different.
DeleteIt looks like that is just the default center for the map, if you enter your zip code it moves the little man to you.
DeleteThis is the email I got back from them. Same as several others. Has the typo in unforeseen. Apparently you're supposed to reply "humid" which I did. Nothg back yet.

Thank you for your interest in the long term shelter supply. Due to unf.oreseen circumstances on the eastern seaboard we have had an interruption to our supply lines. We apologize for the inconvenience as we realize time is of the essence. We will add you to the waiting list and a representative will contact you to assess priority as soon as the shelter supply packages are once again available for purchase.

If you Google ".Long-Term Shelter Supply," the first link is to the Swamp Pop page, and the rest are to prepper sites. No idea if they're related to the movie or just Google being Google, but that's what I've got.
ReplyDeleteSomething happened on the East Coast. Maybe bombing Clover had some adverse effect? According to IMDb, John Goodman's character claims there was a chemical attack.
ReplyDeleteOk, now this is a real stretch, but it just popped in my head: what if it's related to whatever was in the parasite bite that killed Marlena Diamond? The secret ingredient of Slusho was found in the parasites blood, who in turn were feeding off of Clover. Nuke Clover -> radiated blood -> chemical attack?
"This is a 15 year ration of assorted flavors, specially packaged for extended periods of dry storage—for when there doesn't seem to be anyone around."
ReplyDeletenow that is interesting since the last line seems to reference THE SONG PLAYING IN THE TRAILER O_O.
I thought the same its the song
Deletehttp://4813.com/ leave us alone, save Marlene.
ReplyDeleteI bought swamp pop at world market the other week. They have carried it for a few years. They have a satsuma soda that is amazing. I love that they are part of this
ReplyDeleteYou might want to mention that the sold out picture is similar to the Valencia logo.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried calling the phone number on their Facebook page?
ReplyDeleteDid anyone happen to check out www.3-11-16.com? I would like to discuss this picture!
ReplyDeleteThe base is 4x8x16. Those numbers again. Shelter kit sold out for $4816. Same numbers entered on the jukebox in the trailer..... Hmmmmmm
Delete4, 8, and 16 were three of the numbers from Lost.
DeleteJust saw it hmmm.how to.build.a shelter. Damn i love this stuff
ReplyDeleteI just got back from a world market and they had several flavors of this soda in stock. So this company is real, and they sell real product.
ReplyDeleteSo this officially marks the beginning of a new ARG/hunt huh? OH I'm so excited! When Cloverfield came out back in 2008 I was completely unaware of the ARG but now I can participate on this one!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, did you guys noticed that there are six Swamp Pop flavors just like Slusho? And even their back story about a pair of cousins experimenting with flavors to create delicious drinks sounds veeery familiar.
May be a lead...

Swamp Pop appears to be real but they also appear to be involved with this. I checked out www.3-11-16.com. Not sure if it's related; it seems to be have been last modified in October and the picture came from here: http://twinsandcorealty.com/
ReplyDeleteIs twins and co realty a legitimate company? They have yelp reviews and everything... Has anyone contacted them through their website?
DeleteCan someone in here, anyone, watch the official trailer again and tell me that the sound I am hearing at 1:35 is NOT the monster? Because it sounds very similar.
ReplyDeleteI use to have clover as my ringtone, doesn't sound the same
Deletehttp://youtu.be/5NxWd_LlMjU
DeleteThe logo that says that the item has sold out is the same as when the movie was filming and was called Valencia.
ReplyDelete@anonymous - I don't know man, sounds like it to me. Whatever it is, it sounds alive.
ReplyDeleteSo it looks like on Unfiction and Reddit people are reporting on getting their swamp pop shipments with puzzle pieces inside. The puzzle pieces appear to be from a puzzle of the eiffel tower. Good times ahead boys and girls.
ReplyDeleteI noticed there are at least 3 times the Eiffel Tower shows up in the trailer. Thought it was a coincidence at first. Now, not so sure.
ReplyDeleteEiffel tower half destroyed was a VERY popular fan art picture for the fictional Cloverfield 2. I've seen it at least 6 different versions.
DeleteI have purchased a 4 pack of the rootbeer. It will be delivered by tuesday. we will see about these puzzle pieces.
ReplyDeletePlease let me know if they do come with a puzzle piece
ReplyDeleteFor sure, I'll send him pictures to post on here. Maybe even make a video.
ReplyDeleteGlad this is back... Even if its a short period
ReplyDeleteSwamp Pop is not good?!

SwampPop arrived today, with the three puzzle pieces.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting mine today as well. Eager to see how comparable our pieces are. Email me at b.gresh08@gmail.com if you want to compare pictures
ReplyDeleteNew post!
ReplyDeleteWhere?
DeleteK brace yourselves. "There doesn't seem to be anyone around" and the fact that the "end of the world" happened, maybe those three are the last humans on earth.
ReplyDeleteWhen in the Swamp pop store the twitter image takes you to https://twitter.com/itsryan instead of the swamp pop twitter account. is this something?
ReplyDeleteThe image on the twitter account looks like it is a stock generic photo.

ReplyDeleteI know everyone is one the soda, but my focus is on the barrel and phone. The same jukebox number also has reference to wiring for telecommunications, and a chemical compound. Also the header on the box near the couch has strange label as well. Something from China...
ReplyDeleteThe new tv spot has a bio suit and farm house with bright glowing object looming behind it...
ReplyDeleteHas anyone looked into the bible verses? (4816)
ReplyDeleteGenesis 4:8-16 has an interesting start Cain told his brother Abel "let's go out to the field"
Has anyone looked at bible verses concerning the number 4816. In genesis 4:8-16 it starts out pretty interesting. Cain told Abel "let's go out to the field"
ReplyDeleteearlier someone stated that if you click the Twitter link it takes you to itsryan instead of the swamp Pop account but now it takes you to the swamp pop account. But I looked up its Ryan and his account says he designs web pages?
ReplyDeleteSnooping around the Swamp Pop facebook page led me to City Pork Deli & Charcuterie page. On that face book page the Feb. 19th, 2016 post is of a softshell crab po'boy with a Valencia Swamp Pop and a hashtag notjustpork. The thing is it is not Soft Shell crab season, not for a couple of months.
ReplyDeleteHey - this is all confusing, and I am having fun with it - but according to this link - Actor John Goodman died on
ReplyDeleteMarch 1st - 2016 -- which is still 2 days away:
http://en.necropedia.org/obituary/John_Goodman
Ok, the number is 4813, not 4816, so check your theories people. Also, looked on swamp pop at site in Kansas, shows Winn Brook Child Care, address is from Massachusetts, but it shows in Kansas. Right on the edge of, or in a little lake. Don't have any theories, just thought I'd throw this out there.

ReplyDeleteSwamp Pop is a real brand here in Louisiana, and has become quite popular. They have several flavors, including Ponchatoula strawberry and Praline cream soda.
