Matt Reeves Interview on Sci Fi Pi

Matt Reeves was interviewed by Sci Fi Pi back in April, just after the Japanese premiere. He doesn't reveal anything new, but does seem to admit not having much involvement with the internet marketing:

Were you involved with Slusho and Tagruato stuff on the internet?
Well the Slusho stuff - there are a lot of really smart young people working at Bad Robot and those guys, we had conversations with them, and they were apprised of the situation and there were a couple of guys that put together some great stuff in particular that was parallel to what was going on. A lot of it was planned, but then they came up with this great crazy stuff.

Cloverfield Is Dead? Long Live Cloverfield!

In the current issue of Rolling Stone magazine, a short Q&A with JJ Abrams may have revealed the ultimate fate of Clover, the Cloverfield monster:

RS: But based on photos on the Website, it looks like the monster eventually gets killed by the army.
JJ: Yes, he's dead. Ultimately the bombs kill him.

I assume that Kevin O'Donnell, who doesn't appear have enough knowledge about the ARG to write a full article, is referring to the dead creature photo on 1-18-08.com. It's also not made clear what the time-frame is for his death - after two or three sequels?

The Cloverfield Blu-ray is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com. They currently list the price at $27.95, but as always with the Amazon Price Guarantee, if the price drops between your order time and release date, you'll receive the lowest price.

They also list the release date as May 20^th!?!? This is probably just out-of-date information, since they don't have the cover art up yet, and the actual release date is supposed to be June 3^rd. But it wouldn't hurt to order it from Amazon and see if it comes early... :)

USGX-8810-B467-233PX Password Found!

The REAL username/password to USGX-8810-B467-233PX.com has been found by Unfiction's Tether!

The password was in fact something that Alyse Hanssen should have been able to figure out herself, IF she bought the Cloverfield DVD (and not the SteelBook version!!).

The username is simply alysehanssen, and the password was the mysterious number on the "Project Cloverfield" sticker which seals the DVD - 11112014349.

Entering the correct username and password reveals no new information, and the "parent directory" still takes you to "unauthorized", so I have the feeling we have found everything there is to find. Good work everyone!

Michael Giacchino's "Roar" Pulled From iTunes?

Michael Giacchino's "Roar", the Cloverfield overture heard during the closing credits, has been unceremoniously pulled from iTunes. It doesn't even show in the Top Albums listing anymore.

The previously working iTunes direct link now gives the following error message.

The usgx8810b467233px website has been cracked open! Although password was not found, eloOMGmoto found another way in. (I still give someone a prize for finding the correct password, although I actually don't think there is one!) The content of the page is simple, just three links to the MISSING files!!!

The pictures show the discovery of the Cloverfield monster (and parasites) by Tagruato subs, deep on the ocean floor, near Tagruato's Chuai Oil Drilling Station (based on the coordinates). It looks like the sub may have disturbed the monser and awaken the beast, causing the Chuai station attack . There is also a transcript between someone named Atsumi, who was on the rig at the time, and Sub #4767. You can see the Monster in the first image, and the parasites in the second image. The depth meter on the second image is interesting, it shows 10,027.5 M(eters?), which would be over six miles below the surface.

Another find for GuesstimateJones - a Tagruato logo on one of the Chuai station's support tower!

The website holding Alyse Hanssen's missing file has been found by GuesstimateJones.

USGX8810B467233PX.com contains a single blank login screen. The domain was created in February, which predates the DVD release or any of the sword updates.

The website was found by piecing a bunch of clues together. It's no coincidence that the last post by MissingTeddyHanssen (MTH) was on 4/22, the date of the DVD release. Hidden on the DVD's secret Chapter 17 is a list of "Supplemental Files":




All of the links begin with USGX-8810-B467, and end with a number and a letter code. The numbers all follow the fibonacci numbers. However the number 233 is missing from the sequence. USGX-8810-B467-233PX appears to be the missing file, and USGX8810B467233PX.com appears to be where that file is.

Now.... what is the username and password?

There are A LOT of possibilities, but I would guess it is something that Alyse would be able to guess or Anonymous would not have sent her to look for it. Here are some possible things to try:

• t543w - The name of the sword file on JamieAndTeddy.com
• 430 / 438 - The number on the back of the MISSING poster on 1-18-08.com
• oudnaniehg - The name of the MISSING poster on MissingTeddyHanssen.com
• male - A hidden word on the MTH poster.
  
• John Garrettie / john / garrettie / jgarrettie - The name of the CIA agent who talked to Alyse
• Alyse Hanssen / alyse / hanssen / ahanssen - Teddy's sister

• Janice - The TidoWave member who was supposed to provide a picture
• Randy - Teddy's friend who was supposed to contact Jamie

Cloverfield Blu-Ray Details

Paramount has unleashed the specs and box art for the Blu-ray version of Cloverfield, which will be released on June 3rd.

The suggested retail price is $39.95, and will contain all of the features of the standard DVD, plus an exclusive picture-in-graphics track. The new disc will also feature 1080p HD video, and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround.

It looks like it is time to finally upgrade the home theater, or at least pick up an inexpensive Blu-Ray drivefor the computer.

Cloverfield DVD Rentals and Sales

Cloverfield was #1 last week in both DVD sales and rentals, in the US and Canada.

The Cloverfield DVD pulled in $7.5 million in rentals, which is more than the last 10 weeks of the theatrical run combined. This was enough to edge out Juno, in its second week of release. This weeks big release is Golden Compass, which bombed in the theaters, so it's possible that Cloverfield will hang on to it's top spot this week.

I haven't been able to find any sales figures for the DVD yet, but RentTrak and the Canadian Press both report Cloverfield in the top spot. Cloverfield is currently #2 in iTunes sales.

Also interesting, Michael Giacchino's "Roar" made it in to the top 1o albums in iTunes (#10), but has already dropped down to #15.

Cloverfield Digital Downloads

Cloverfield is now available for digital download on three of the major video download services - Amazon Unbox ($14.99), iTunes ($14.99), CinemaNow ($19.95), and Movielink ($19.99).

I've used the Amazon Unbox service in the past and it works great and is easy to use, but you can buy the full DVD for the same price, so I'm not sure why anyone would do this. I assume the download price is for the movie only, so... you are paying the same price (or more), for less content?!?!? If it was $4.99, or even $9.99 it might make more sense...

Cloverfield Blu-Ray Date Announced

Paramount has officially confirmed the details of its Blu-ray release schedule, with its first titles due for release late May, and more importantly, the release of Cloverfield Blu-Ray on June 3^rd! This is much sooner than I predicted!

The Cloverfield Blu-ray will include "an exclusive feature-length "Special Investigation Mode" with added details about the film. Additional features include a director commentary, Making Of featurettes, deleted scenes, alternate endings with commentary and more."
