Woo, first post. Anywho, is it just me...or does anyone else think that they are starting to reveal TOO much of the movie in the trailers. The only thing they haven't let us know for sure is what the monster is, other than that, it's been pretty clear on everything that's going to happen in the movie...
ReplyDeleteThese TV spots are coming out like crazy! Will there be a transcript for this one?
ReplyDeleteNo Exit... ha ha
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for Panera Bread.

ReplyDeletei dont think they're revealing to much. we're pretty much seeing the same clips over and over again in just a varied order. everything consists of SOL head, roars, and running screams.
ReplyDeleteim confused why they have the army guys face blurred out in one clip but in the next one theres a clear view of his face. whats the point in blurring it out?
What the hell is "lul"
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteTHIS is the one I was telling everyone about a few days ago, which aired on NBC Christmas night.
I knew I wasn't crazy.
Or stupid.
Or a liar....
first time posting - how's everybody? about that lul - i think he's saying low (as in a low point, maybe waiting for stuff to die down). i don't know - makes more sense than lul.
ReplyDeleteThere is obviously something they didn’t want us to see by blurring his face until now. Find out who the marine is and we may find another clue. Maybe someone that plays a key role in the movie?
ReplyDeleteHe says "lull" it's just misspelled in the transcript.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree, it seems like we've practically been shown almost every non-monster-attacking scene of the movie by now.
Which -- considering how little we've really been shown -- means the monster-attacking footage should be mind-blowing.
Lull-a temporary calm, quiet, or stillness: a lull in a storm.
ReplyDeletewhat is meant by SOL head?
ReplyDeleteAnd also, what do you think they meant by "the air caught on fire"? thats incredibly interesting.
and come on, who really thinks that after all this JJ Abrams is gonna reveal the whole movie in a few tv spots. motha, please. have some more faith in JJ.
ok great, you figured out a what a lull is haha what do you think the air caught on fire means?
ReplyDeletei think what rob is talking about is after the girl explodes. they probably a) either have no idea what came outta her, or b) why it happend. No one would really care about the main monster or what it was...its massive and its destroying to much for them to care what it is haha idk this is getting crazier by the day
I CANT WAIT!!
Does anyone know what the release date is for this in Japan?
ReplyDeleteWas hoping that with the Japanese marketing connection it would get released around the same time as in the US but I don't see any info about it on IMDB. :(
this is a connection to the sonar part also
ReplyDeleteSON AIR... That's French. It translates to "His Air" or "It's Air".
HAWK: The air caught on fire
and that could be detecting heat so maybe the dark spots are fire?
i dont think the sonar images and the air fire are related...son air be a clue to the monsters powers, but if there was thermal imagining from above i feel like everyone would know it was happening cause air being on fire would be intense to say the least
ReplyDeletewww.slushozoom.com wierd I though... the links are pretty nutso... plus whats with that other date???
ReplyDelete...Wait, is that Columbus Circle? And if so, that means Beth lives in the Time Warner building?
ReplyDeleteAnd jeez, when did they film this? I go to Columbus Circle everyday after school and I don't remember seeing a film crew. Or maybe I'm just really unobservant.
A large part of the exterior shots are green screen and im sure a lot of interiors are on a stage (for lack of a better term, I can't think of the word right now.)
ReplyDeleteSOL = statue of liberty.
ReplyDeleteI know people who work in the Time Warner bldg. They report neither a film crew, nor their building getting knocked over by a 300 foot tall monster. I'm going out on a limb: this might, perhaps, be a special effect.
Hahahahaha, nice one Adam.
ReplyDeletedo you think the monster can breath fire? that would be lame...
ReplyDeleteadam - hilarious
ReplyDeleteCharlie - if by lame you mean awesome, i agree. lol

ReplyDelete"AND why has no one commented on the blue light pionted at the SOL's head?"
ReplyDeleteYou mean the obvious helicopter inspecting the remains of the SOL after the monster had already removed the head?
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteOk it was said that JJ said that the video was not edited so why is the soldiers face blurred?
ReplyDeletewhen rob says did "you see that guys face"
was he talking about it being blurred? or was he talking about the other guy there
Dennis can you do one of your sound thingys for this ? Something tells me he didnt say lull, i think he was cut off by the explosion.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, you can't tell that's a helicopter with a spot light?
ReplyDeleteThe assumption that EVERYTHING you see is not what it seems, is how we had to endure silly speculation like giant lions and Voltron and spooky faces in the darkness. Sometimes a helicopter illuminating a headless statue is just a helicopter illuminating a headless statue.
And lull is a rather common expression. Rob wants to wait 'til things cool down out in the streets; Hawk's reasonably sure that's not likely to happen.
Finally, the context of the "face" dialog seems clear, Rob realizes the military is as frightened and confused as he and his friends are, he saw the fear on their faces.
DO APOLOGIZE IF MENTIONED BEFORE, BUT HOW IS THE INCORPORATION OF THE HAND HELD FORMAT SUPPOSE TO SUSTAIN A NIGHTS WORTH OF MATERIAL WITH THE LIMITED MEMORY SPACE(IF DIGITAL)AND WHAT ABOUT BATTERY LIFE?
ReplyDeleteWHOS OPERATING? WILL THE CHARACTERS ALTERNATE AND CAPTURE ALL THE PIVOTAL MATERIAL?IM STARTING TO GET SKEPTICAL.THE HANDHELD QUALITY PROVIDES THE FILMMAKERS THE BENEFIT OF DECEPTION TO THE EXPENCE OF THE VIEWERS.THE OPERATOR OF THE CAM IS A HELL OF A DP.
dennis you should make another side thing with all the commercials on it, theres just too many!
ReplyDeleteI read on another forum someone said that newer digital cams have a battery life and potential storage capacity of over 4 hours. That, along with the possibility of a supply of extra batteries (I'd want to have a spare with me at a party) and comments from Abrams/Reeves et al, that the "cuts" in the movie would emulate periods when the camera was turned off (intentionally or accidentally), and the duration seems plausible. I personally suspect that some footage from other sources (t.v. news, military, other eye witnesses) could also get thrown in without violating the spirit that they've promised: that the movie will be "found" media after the attack ("multiple sightings of case designate cloverfield").
ReplyDeleteHmm, so are there two helicopters containing the main characters, and our cameraman is filming the other one?
ReplyDelete"do you think the monster can breath fire? that would be lame..."
Must be Godzilla's atomic breath!
Maybe the monster spews a certain substance that, when mixed with oxygen, ignites?
ReplyDelete"The air caught on fire...!"

ReplyDeleteI think that it is safe to say that there will be smaller monsters in this movie just because in one of the commercials i cant recal which one a woman says we got a bite, a big monster couldnt bite a human without leaving a chunk of them gone.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteits lull. its obvious that its lull. whether he said lull or not should no longer be discussed. its not important...and again, its quite obvious, if you watch the commercial, that he says lull.
ReplyDeletelull
dennis,
ReplyDeletedidn't you make a 5th podcast?
if so, are you gonna put it up?
if not... disregard this post...
hmmm...is that fire at the base of the S.O.L.??
ReplyDeleteSomething....blows up at/on Liberty Island.
ReplyDeleteFolks, if you have never heard the phrase "wait for a lull in the action", you need to get out from behind the screen once in awhile. The fire-breathing angle should come as no real surprise given the original blast in the teaser-trailer.
ReplyDeleteWHY ISN'T ANYONE ELSE TALKING ABOUT THE LINE IN THE FIFTH COMMERCIAL WHEN "UNKNOWN" SAYS "He's coming! Go go go!"
ReplyDeletewho is HE!?!?!
I Think I Know...But I'm Not Going To Spoil It For You All....
I'm with you Higgy, monster is definitely (probably) some mutated-human thing that incorporates Teddy.
ReplyDeleteRoadwarrior, I agree the bulk of the movie must be the footage from the single camera to keep the "fourth wall" dissolved and make the audience part of the action. The presumption is that this is footage recovered by the military afterwards; the mosaic effect over the soldier's face might either be military censorship, or some damage or degradation has occurred in the digital recording (the editors may be experimenting with this effect, thus the two versions of it we've seen, just like the two versions of the surprise party footage and the earlier, more primitive SOL head). I'm not sure about chopping the timeline up Tarantino style; that's a bit too cerebral and while it works for him, it would interfere with the constantly increasing level of dread this movie needs to maintain.
ReplyDeleteOh, and Hollywood HAS had (record-breaking) success in the past with movies with scarce monster presence... Jaws, anyone? Or how about Alien? The absence of the monster(s) in those movies is what made them so frightening.
c lover, the continued ad hominem insults notwithstanding (which it's obvious the others here don't appreciate, and which got at least one of your previous comments deleted by the admin a few days back, if I recall), suit yourself. Now it breathes fire? Now it leaps over buildings? Could it be made out of smoke???? Come on man. The wilder the speculation gets in the last days before the movie opens, the more disappointed people are going to be if the monster winds up being something less bizarre.
I'm hoping for shear, relentless, unforgiving Terror... not comic book superpowers.
There is fire at the base of SOL because a tanker exploded in New York Bay. Pieces of it flew all the way to Broadway. A helicopter is shining a light on the damage. The air "caught fire" (in Hawk's words) because the military is shooting weapons that explode over the heads of our protagonists. After what he has witnessed, he does not expect there to be a lull in the carnage above.
These are all pretty easy to understand concepts.
They have a clip from the movie on yahoo if you go to their cloverfield page with new info! When the first attack happened a boat capsized near the statue of liberty!
ReplyDeleteCan we have a link to the clip?

ReplyDeleteThe air catching on fire could be from the use of a Fuel/air bomb which
ReplyDeletecould be the weapon of choice because of its non-radioactive properties and massive firepower. Dropping bombs in public places can be tricky I guess.
I believe the monster will be on the move mostly. I also think that it doesn't breathe fire nor will it leap tall buildings in a single bound. I agree with Adam, ad hominem attacks can only diminish your creditability here.

ReplyDeleteC LOVER F IELD (a new age) ... Please calm down and stop attacking other people.
ReplyDeleteROADWARRIOR... PLEASE STOP USING ALL CAPS!
Please email me if you have any questions.
kk Dennis, and cburgess_ccrunner i think michy is talking about this video http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809873032/video/5197157/
ReplyDeletethis is the newest video thats on yahoo but i dont see any capsizing boats.
learnlovegrow: That's what I was thinking...something the military did, not the monster.
ReplyDeleteAdam: As of today, Rob's still looking for a job, and there's a shadowy Japanese conglomerate doing whoknowswhat in the Atlantic. So tell your friends to going skiing in Vermont in a couple of weeks.

ReplyDeleteYahoo is way behind the curve.
You can see the capsized boat in Video #5 "Some Thing Has Arrived"
I have a screenshot of it there.
Dennis i was on youtube looking at the commercials and someone stated that at the end of all the commercials when they show why the movie has a PG-13 rating all of the i's are missing so it reads
ReplyDeletev olence, terror and d sturb ng
mages
With all the recent developments this may sound like small beans, but I'm really intrigued by the drama between Rob and Beth. This commercial reiterates her presence at the party, then concretely reveals that she gets trapped in her apartment. Did she get trapped after the party? Did she leave the party early? Did she initiate anything? It's a helluva long shot, but what if she's connected to Tagruato or TIDOwave? Maybe she ran home to make some sort of contact/report?
ReplyDeleteHa ha. I know how far-reaching that theory sounds. Just a thought.
That'd be a huge stretch. On their MySpace pages, Beth has been shrugging off his advances for weeks. If he's leaving NY she probably shows up "to be a good friend" and say farewell. The course of events that follows will likely demonstrate what a great guy he is and change her mind.
ReplyDeleteAnd then of course they'll probably both die.
Dennis the Widget contest says it runs from 12/12/07 through 12/31/07 so does this mean its over?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else think that its a possibilty that the monster came to NYC via the tanker? Possibly breaking free?
ReplyDeleteOr maybe it specificcally followed the tanker and then attacked NY due to it being in "the wrong place at the wrong time"?
Hey Dennis!
ReplyDeleteCongrats man, the widget contest ends today, and YOU'RE IN THE LEAD. Congrats man!
snorthog sadly Dennis is not in the lead.
ReplyDeleteReally? I thought I read somewhere he did.
ReplyDeleteWell, then who's in the lead?
snort here is the leader board
ReplyDeletehttp://www.cloverfieldmovie.com/contest/
I was watching this special on tv about the big mass of garbage floating in the Pacific (I think there is one in the Atlantic as well. Wouldn't it be crazy if the oil spill mixed with the garbage powered by Slusho secret ingredient created this massive monster composed of environmental waste? I know it's far fetched but hell why not?
ReplyDeleteWtf, he is in the lead, he's just not on the board!
ReplyDeleteReferring to what Pamela said, this sounds like it could be it.
ReplyDeleteWhich brings light to my theory I had today of it being a live-action movie of-- you guessed it-- CAPTAIN PLANET!
Guys i think Tagruato.jp is getting a update so if they do you heard it here first.
ReplyDeleteC LOVER F IELD (a new age) said... Guys i think Tagruato.jp is getting a update so if they do you heard it here first.
ReplyDeleteIs this just a wild guess, or do you have a reason that it might be getting an update.....?
I "had" one. Because it has 6 option bars buy only 5 of them have something in them. But looking back at a picture of Tagruato when it was first discovered i guess it has always been like that. but they will be getting another section on the website sooner or later i believe
