Clue Hunt Photo #4

The Clue Hunt for Photo #3 is over. The correct answer was SUPERTANKER - which is what you see blowing up in the photo. You can see the burning Tagruato ship up close later in the movie as Rob and his friends cross the Brooklyn Bridge.

The secret word was hidden in morse code on the building on the far left.

Today's Top 8:

#1 - Billy (2/3)
#2 - Ramon Santano (3/3)
#3 - James Mehaffey (1/3)
#4 - Myk Zagorac (3/3)
#5 - Christian E (2/3)
#6 - David Hodgkiss (2/3)
#7 - Dave Thompson (3/3)
#8 - Gabriel Talavera (2/3)

We've reached a new low in correct answers, in fact the top eight are the only people with the correct answer! Congratulations to Ramon Santano, Dave Thompson and Myk Zagoric for their perfect scores so far!

Photo #4 should be MUCH easier. All you need to do is tell me the name of my goat. The answer is somewhere on this blog.

The Kishin Caption contest is still going strong. There are now 60 entries! Check them all out here, and leave a positive comment on the ones you like as an informal vote. (Please don't leave any negative comments. Thanks!)

Don't forget you can also enter the DVD giveaway, just by sending me an email!

  1. Dang it! I knew it had something to do with the lights. I knew they didn't quite match the picture. I just don't know morse code. haha. Nice one! ;)

  2. I realise this is just a game and just for fun but that feels like a low blow. The person who said "you'll kick yourself" for not getting this was not helpful at all. That implied that somehow we were missing something easy. Which in turn made me spend even more time looking.

You and your goat can keep the DVD.

  3. Hmmm ... Somehow ... I missed the answer to clue number three ... The one with Jamie Lascano passed out on the couch ... When did this pic crop up? I've been following this daily.

I know I have not missed a pic clue.

  4. I would so totally be competing if I didn't already have my free copy of the Cloverfield DVD!

  5. Lol, I knew I was looking at the right bit! Too bad I don't know Morse Code. Which is a little more ironic given I work for a Defence company (albeit as an illustrator and designer, so, you know, my field knowledge involves what I accidentally read in a manual I had to PDF one day).

  8. Yes, now i can see that contest03 was pretty obvious. Those stupid windows :))

And I was thinking of sending in the word TANKER cause somehow i felt that it's not the word i'm looking for but the object exploding. I had not idea THERE IS such a word as 'supertanker' :))

  11. Oh no way! I knew those windows weren't in the original scene, I double checked! They looked too sharp, and for a split second I thought, maybe morse code? But for some reason I didn't bother. I have no one to blame but myself. That was a good one.

    Lighten up, Francis ;)

In retrospect, what kind of hint do you think would have helped? Look for some morse code? It's a learning process. These are all techniques that are used in real online puzzle games. I understand that most people wouldn't think to look for Morse code - most people assumed that the word would be written with letters. It's all about trying to think differently.

    To Summarize:

Clue #1 - Beth, Transformers was written on the wall.
Clue #2 - Jamie, Cornbread was written in the file properties/EXIF info
Clue #3 - Explosion, Supertanker was written in Morse code on one of the buildings
Clue #4 - Pygmy Goat, her name is mentioned in one of my previous posts

You can still compete, just tell me in your email that you don't want the DVD

Very few people know morse code any more (I don't btw). That's why there's Wikipedia.

  13. Pink. I thought that once anyone looked at the spot of the picture that was altered they would figure out eventually it was morse code, or a code of some sort with dots and dashes. Thats why I said my other advice. Like everyone else I thought I was looking for an english word, but really I needed to see the altered part of the photo. To me once I saw that I knew it was morse code and I knew the first letter was S (for trivia's sake thats why SOS is the distress call, its very easy, 3 dots, 3 dashes, 3 dots).
But if it makes you feel better my wife later told me that due to certain geeky-esc qualities that I was probably wrong and most people would not instantly recognize morse code. Though a google of dots and dashes brings up morse in the first result.

  14. w00t for extremely difficult morse code in windows on a building! lol... didnt even see it, eventually my mind was putting anything it could together for letters, i thought near there there was the letter E and i couldnt make out the rest of the word... not the case!

  15. hahahah!!! i thought it was a word hidden in the explosion. if you crop it up, it looks like there is some sort of lettering going on there. i didn't even think of looking in the windows. [thinking inside the box would have been a funny hint]
