Cloverfield on Yahoo

Cloverfield is the #2 search term on Yahoo today, right behind "South Carolina Primary". There is also a special Yahoo Pulse section featuring the top Cloverfield searches, which includes "Cloverfield Clues" :)

Hi Yahooligans!

There is also a special article in Yahoo Movies called Just The Facts on Cloverfield

And, there is a new Cloverfield video clip, titled "Choppers":

  1. does ne1 know about there possibly being a sequel(sp) comming out soon because it was filmed at the same time as this movie?

  3. The explosion on http://www.1-18-08.com is the same image as the Italian news at 14 secs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wV2XkQPNRBs). Is this conclusive evidence that the first attack happened at the Chuai Station?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Surely there has to be a news report online within the viral world about the attack on NYC? If Chuai station warrents national media attention a monster tearing up NYC would definitely get coverage??

    ReplyDelete
  5. wow nice find, they are identical explosions.

can anyone confirm wether or not the jets used are amercican jets?

  6. Joel:

If we assume everything in all of the pictures/news events, etc., is put there for a reason, I would think it shows the Military certainly knew about the creature prior to the NYC attack.

However, on the Yahoo link you can clearly still see the station, and on the night vision photo you can not. In the night vision photo the perspective of the boats in the foreground and background also show the explosion in the night vision photo is at sea level.

I think it's probably more a matter of using the same animation twice by someone in the PR department, as an overlay of the station and explosion at the same time. You can see the station sort of vanish in the youtube click and then the explosion looks like it is just on the water. But be know from the footage the station didn't sink because of an explosion.

    Then again, who knows.

    It's a great find anyway.

  8. No, he posted on the main page he was just taking off the holiday.

  9. ty....thats not what the man in the alley said. at all. there was a guy in the unfiction forums that said this:

    He was Slavic.

"He said "No! No! You are going the wrong way! You can not go the wrong way! There are little big spiders (hard to translate, exactly, but he let him know that there were smaller monsters who were also big, and spider-like)! There is a monster!"

Nothing revealing. Probably just something for everyone to obsess over, or maybe a throwback to the babbling and screaming citizens of Tokyo?"

  13. If they finally decide to make a sequel (which I hope they do), I hope it's not a prequel. I like the idea of having the same story but in a different point of view.

    SOMEONE ACTUALLY GOT THE POINT!!!!!
yea im interested in all background nonsense and all that happy horseshit and i have some theories about the monster and everything else thats going on but all J.J.Abrams planned to do the whole time was to blow everyone away. and he did. he dropped the biggest marketing bomb ever.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I hope and pray to God they make a sequel. This movie was to good and unique not to. And it would only make sense to do so considering this whole thing began because J.J. wanted Americans to have their own Godzilla. Well, Godzilla is hardly a movie as much as he is a franchise. So i say, keep making em! Let's make Godzilla look like a fucking soap opera!

  16. still havent seen this film >_<

arrrghhh england sucks through and through.

both AVP and Beowulf got murdered with edits.

AVP got a extreme edition released on dvd, and i hope beowulf will too.

just read how the makers of cloverfield filmed a "Hard-R" for the film, and how it was meant to be alot more violent/intense.

however, i can imagine it still being pretty sick, and its a 15 in cinemas over here.

so lets hope for a directors cut, 18 dvd release

    XD FUCK YEAH.

  18. ok guys, maybe you can help me out, but i have one major issue with something in this film.

for those of you who have seen it, the beginning mentions that this whole thing is recorded on a single SD card found in central park. A couple of problems arise from this. 1) what camcorder anywhere uses SD media as its sole recording medium? I mean, i know you can get still cameras that run off SD that take short videos into the card, but no camcorder i've ever seen primarily runs off SD. it's usually miniDV or miniDVD media that camcorders use.
    2) let's assume there IS such a camcorder. what size of SD card and format of recording would allow for 7 hours of recording, minus the small gaps in time Hud turns the camera off (which might only take two hours off the whole thing max)?
    3) in my experience using cameras with video recording onto flash media, once a video recording stops it closes the file and if you press record again it starts a new file. how, then, is it possible that Hud/Jason accidentally rewrote over an existing recording that Rob made? this would mean they were using something like miniDV media, magnetic tape that allows you to record over previous footage.

I can see where a small SD card would be more likely to survive "hammerdown" as opposed to a larger more fragile magnetic tape cassette, but it kinda screws up a lot about how the video was initially recorded.

    ReplyDelete
  19. a giant monster attacked new york city and your concerned over the antirealism of the video being filmed. suspension of disbelief my friend, lol.

    im just busting your chops

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think the monsters might react to the camera, it seems like the monsters big and small were aftr HUD specifically the whole movie, i dont know. btw, "Clover" didnt do the reall rampaging till after people shot at him, i dont think he came with the need to destroy, mybe he just felt threatened after he got there.

    ReplyDelete
  21. i know it's nit-picking, but it just seems that with all the detail put into this to make it seems real, the choice of saying it was an SD card they recovered as opposed to a more logical miniDV tape doesn't make sense.

    ReplyDelete
  22. In that same SD card vein, didn't Rob ask Hud if he replaced the tape before he started recording because he was worried about it overwriting the day with Beth? However, he could just be calling the card a "tape" because that's what holds the recording and it's just tradition.

On a side note, my camcorder can record directly to an SD card for that amount of time. However, it's a hard drive based camcorder and the SD slot is considered secondary.

    According to
    this
the camera used by Hud has a storage device called a P2 Card, which is basically a RAID of SD cards in a PCMCIA form factor. It looks like one large card. The thing is, according to Wikipedia, they cost 700 bucks a pop and I have to suspend my disbelief for a bit to say a twenty something has a bunch of them laying around to put recordings on.

My view on the camera is not worry about the storage so much as the battery. IMHO the movie was uncut. There was NOT 7 hours of film. There was a 74 minutes of film and the camera was not recording the rest of the time. I'd be more worried about the battery. (Using the flashlight for a few hours in the tunnel, maybe being in standby mode) On the other hand, with that expensive of a camera and that much money in SD cards laying around, they might have thought of getting a high capacity battery. Wallah! There's the solution.

There you go, it all works out in the end. You only have to believe that Rob had gobs of money to spend on camera equipment. Based on the view from some of the apartments, I could assume some luxuries could be afforded.

    ReplyDelete
  23. From what I read about P2 cards:
"Cards are recorded in sequence, and when a card is full, it can be swapped out while another card is recording. This limits recording time only by power supply and the available amount of cards. If a card is partially full, the deck will record only until it is full. Unlike tape, old video cannot be recorded over accidentally. Old footage must be manually deleted."

SO! The movie was probably recorded with P2 cards (SD format)in HD during filming and they mistakenly stated that in the opening of the movie that the footage was SD card(instead of saying MiniDV tape). This movie assumes that the video was recorded with MiniDV format, because HUD recorded over Beth and Rob's love tape.

Is it possible to record in MiniDV and backup on the P2? Still doesnt make sense, since P2 works in sequence and cannot be written over (has to be deleted manually). If it was a backup on the P2 SD card, then the original tape could have been damaged (which explains the blips and interference in some scenes).

  24. I was just reading about the May 23rd date theories. Im not sure if anyone noticed but the photos on the 1-18-08.com website have waaaay incorrect dates on them.

All the photos that have to do with the party/attack have 01/18/2008 dates. I went to see this film on that day in NYC and its way F==King cold outside. Cold enough that these kids shouldnt be running around in skirts and T-shirts. So wtf with the May 23rd stuff?. Could it be a mistake?

    ReplyDelete
  25. EDWIN,
I think you mean the 1-18-08.com stuff is wrong and the May 23 stuff is right? If it was 1-18-08 it would be snowing , or freakin cold like you said. So the movie definitely happens in May 23, 2009 (because Rob says SATURDAY May 23).

I think the viral marketing person is getting fired. Remember the interviews, JJ and Reeves say that the photos and viral stuff timeline is totally different. Things are NOT happening in "real time". Its probably a mistake. Those dates shouldnt have been there on the party photos, just the time stamp, because those seem correct.

I do however think that SATURDAY MAY 23 (2009)is a HUGE clue. Why would Rob leave out the year? May 23 2007 is a Wednesday, 2008 is a Friday, and 2009 is a SATURDAY. Look at the computer calendar if you don't believe me.

I also realized something about people who say "wow that camera had a fantastic battery". The film is possible because most of the "great day" with Rob and Beth (flashbacks) filmed on April, were filmed IN THE PAST! Obviously the battery was fully charged on May 22 and 23. There were time jumps where HUD turns off the camera or rewinds film (when they caught a glimpse of the monster). It WAS NOT 7 hours of continuous recording. Also, HUD could have an extra battery in his pocket.

The light in the subway could be a light with a built in battery. They're used often. Could be a LED based light or something too. One thing that's wrong is the "Night vision" in the tunnel. I dont think that camera has Night vision. (although this takes place in 2009 so maybe they had Night vision then).

Anyhow instead of nitpicking and analyzing EVERY PART OF THE MOVIE so we can GET PISSED ABOUT THE VIRAL MARKETING, Lets find REAL CLUES, because this mystery is definitely not over.

    ReplyDelete
  26. "i was sure that matt reeves had said that the movie wasn't going to be all about the ARC in an interview, but i cant seem to find it....none the less..yeah, im jj's pet...and i forked over a whole 7 bucks.....i got schooled"

So, again, you spend half a year following something knowing full well it was going to contribute absolutely nothing to the movie. Then you paid physical money knowing you weren't going to get any answers.

Does JJ sugar-coat his cock or something, because you seem to reeeeeeeally enjoy paying money and time to suck on it.

  27. The viral campaign has to coincide with the release date of the movie. All the stuff leading upto the release of the movie that coincides with the party supports this. Take Jamie, her dress and statements on Myspace she was goign to Robs party and then her being in the movie on the couch sleeping, with the same dress on.

I think the pictures have the date of 1-18-08 on them for just this reason. To help people understand the intent is the ARG is supposed to lead into the time the movie takes place (even though the movie was filmed with the intent to take place in April/May).

I have to believe for actual real life reasons the release date of the film was moved up after it was shot. It's not really a big deal for me, and it happens based on projections by the studio of how well the movie will do, etc. It's just one of those things.

    ReplyDelete
  28. whoa,I knew there might be a backlash, but geez people really get bent out of shape about paying 7-8 bucks for a movie that was hyped, yet don't do anything when we're getting raped by oil companies worldwide.

Yes I was a bit disappointed, but I liked the movie. I felt like it was a pretty good deal and was worth it. I felt more ripped off watching Fantastic four, or Epic movie. Well at least Epic movie had that part where she kept kicking the beaver. I can think of many many other movies that pissed me off more than this one. Lets see, Catwoman, ULTRAVIOLET was ultra shitty, DRAGON WARS...TOTAL JOKE, best scene was the old lady running into the cage...., ANYTHING UWE BOLL I call him UWE "toilet" Boll...;)MY BOSS's DAUGHTER...people were actually sleeping....Happily N'ever After.. Alvin & the chipmunks kind of disappointed me at the end... was totally cheesy, predictable, Dave should have been a different guy... CGI was OK... Dave reminded me of John in Garfield...which leads me to Garfield... it was only ok because of JLH before her bikini days. The list goes on and on.

If you dont like the movie, you're entitled to say that, but being an ass and attacking others is just retarded, unless you become a total dickwad like cloverfield (a new age) or whatever that asses name was. That guy was funny at times, but he totally snapped, or his account was hacked.

Damn, I'm also getting lost reading 200+ comments (my bad I left some long ones). But the useless negative comments that dont help with the mystery are starting to irritate me.

Dennis, please change this website from "spoile-free zone" to "Asshole-free zone".
    My 2 cents.

  29. I agree with ROE about the viral campaign, but I think 1-18-08.com made mistakes with the Date part of the timestamp at the party pics. I'm thinking that the 1-18-08 was a symbolic thing representing the fact that the movie will be released then. It had nothing to do with the movie timeline.

Remember JJ and Reeves saying that the ARG, viral marketing is a "meta story" or backstory...a story within a story. Its also separate, since JJ and Reeves were not directly involved (which I think was a HUGE MISTAKE) which leads to mistakes and confusion. Hopefully someone will ask questions to these two guys in an interview.

My big questions... Why marlena blows up. Why the monster only ate Hud, when Beth and Rob were nearby..If this thing is a "baby", where is its "mommy". Whats up with the 1-18-08 pictures? and is the movie shot on May 23 2009 or is "saturday" a mistake? Why doesnt Marlena not keep the pipe or give it to someone just in case those things come back? Why Rob doesnt give the AXE to Beth? (I would be looking for weapons). Does HUD get bit in half, and if so, why didnt Beth and Rob freak out. Was Hammerdown a nuclear blast? Did rob and beth die? Obviously carpet bombing with a B2 bomber didnt work. How high can this thing jump? The thing was so huge and people were getting eaten, so why didnt people scream..."that monster is eating people...Run Run"I understand people are in shock... Plus the news footage showed the parasites falling, but they would have kept showing it in slow motion too, and trying to warn people of a HUGE ASS MONSTER SMASHING THE CITY. Why give Jamie her own webpage, and NOT USE HER IN THE MOVIE????? Perhaps the Sequel will be about Jamie and Teddy? Whats with the SD-card. Why did you play "its still alive" backward at the end? Is that a satellite at the Coney island scene? Why make the movie PG-13. If a huge ass monster attacks...would people just say oh my god...or Its alive? Wouldnt they say FUCKING RUN ITS A MOTHERFUCKING SCARY ASS PEOPLE EATING MONSTER WITH SCARY LITTLE FUCKING THINGS THAT MAKE YOU EXPLODE. TANKS CANT BLOW IT UP, We're TOTALLY FUCKED. People would be crying, why didnt I see any kids....Why did you make people look like sheep being herded by the military. I thought you said the creature was WHITE? it looks green? Why did you need spongebob at the electronics store? How did the camera survive so many falls, especially from being eaten, and falling from a 300ft. beast. Did it come from space? Did that camera have nightvision? Are the parasites scared of light? Did the military already know of the creature before it came to NYC? Was slusho/seabed nectar bad or good? Did the monster smell / track people who drank slusho? Was the creature intelligent? how can the thing live underwater for thousands of years and then suddenly breathe on land?

LOTS OF QUESTIONS! Dennis can you post some questions and your answers/debunking?

  30. "I have to believe for actual real life reasons the release date of the film was moved up after it was shot."

i dont think this is the case. the date was pretty much set in stone when the teaser came out during transformers, and the people working on the teaser said that they were still in pre-production when they made it.

Even if, for arguments sake, that by the time the initial teaser came out with the release date, that release date was something that they needed to bump forward before the teaser, then it means they had plenty of time between then and when they started the ARG to fix all the dates and times to let it coincide with this new release date as well as the dates mentioned in the movie.

i just think there was major communication problems with the ARG people and the movie people. It seems the ARG people artificially moved the ARG to sync with the movie, even though realistically we would have still had 5 months of ARG clues to follow to make sense of the film. i think they thought that 5 months of clues to follow after everyone had already seen the movie would have been confusing and opted to have it sync differently. though this makes huge problems of its own. i just hope they find some way to solve this, because otherwise someone is gonna have to make some kinda back to the future time line for all this crap.

  31. Wassup to all who have posted their thoughts and theories and the people keeping this site up and running(job well done). Just wanted to know what ARG meant. Not sure if it's an acronym of some sort or what. I've been trying to keep up with all of your posts but I keep seeing that term come up so much and it's killing me that I don't know what it means. It's probably a stupid Q but I'd rather someone let me know than be left out. Thanks for hearing me out and thanks to any who respond. 8D

  33. EVERFALLING is right,
The marketing people screwed up BAD. They probably were supposed to only put the "time" not "1-18-08".

OR It could be that the marketing people wanted that all along, and the 1-18-08 timestamp was just to get us excited about the movie. Think about it, this particular website only has clues that are supposed to lead up to the US release day, 1-18-08, hence the web addy, www.1-18-08.com.

    Japan has their own addy:

    http://www.04-05.jp/
(found by DER MERZMENSCH on the Action figure comments)

These websites only exist to market the release date. The actual date in the STORYLINE OF THE MOVIE is APRIL to MAY 23, 2009.

So far, the Jamie&Teddy, Slusho, Tagruato, and TIDOwave.com are there for the ARG and "meta story". I'm sure there is something we're missing, but one things for sure, the 1-18-08 website is there mainly for the US release day. There might be some clues, but I think its the main reason why the days dont match.

Plus JJ and Reeves say that the Marketing viral program was independent of them, and they had no direct involvement (STUPID IMHO), which is probably why the got us all confused with the 1-18-08 website and the actual Timeline of the movie. Remember they CLEARLY STATE that the Viral Timeline does not match the movies, and that the viral timeline AND the MOVIE does not happen in "real time".

By the way, the Japanese site names the monster!

    HAKAISHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Means "The Destroyer" In Japanese
Pretty perfect if you ask me...

Nice ring to it! Much better than Clover or Clovie....LOL. Although, I would have liked something more AMERICAN for America's Monster....

  34. It has an american name Smokey... you said it.... The Destroyer. The Japanese name is just a TRANSLATION. Put it back in good ol' AE and you get the Destroyer.

  35. Not sure if anyone has brought this up but if not then I'll be the first to mention this so called oddity:

The movie begins with Rob recording at Beth's house and if you notice the time was hitting 6:42 a.m.

Now, fast fowarding to the end when Rob is talking into the camera, he states that the time is 6:42 a.m.

I don't remember exactly what time was shown when Rob and Beth were in Coney Island when they show something in the water but it seemed to be somewhere in the 6-ish p.m. It's probably nothing but one never knows.

Seems to me that this movie should've been called "24".

Please post any feedback you have on this info. Thx!
