This Is NOT The Monster, Part 4

Slashfilm has a story about a Cloverfield knock-off movie called Monster, which comes out on video 1-15-08. The company behind this blatant rip-off is The Asylum, a studio who is notorious for making low-budget versions of big blockbuster movies, and trying to fool people at the video store. They are kind of like the movie equivalent of gamejackers.

Other Asylum movies include Snakes on a Train, I Am Omega, Transmorphers, and The Da Vinci Treasure.

  2. It's funny because all the 'rip offs' come out before the original, haha. I will for sure be renting that on the 15th.

  3. That totally sucks. I saw I Am Omega in a video store once, and I'm like:
"What the hell? This is just a rip-off of The Omega Man and I Am Legend!"

I mean, seriously. Who the hell do they think they're fooling?

  4. Lol, uncensored version? What's that mean?

I would have a bit of tolerance for these guys if they didn't just try to mooch off other bigger blockbusters. I saw the trailer- animation was bad, but that's to be expected. What I really didn't like was the TERRIBLE acting. I mean, you could practically see them reading blandly off their scripts.

Dennis- I think it should be "You stay classy, CloverfieldClues!" Don't include the Corningstone line.

  6. "Monster" was taken from "Monstrous," a title which people thought for a short while had anything to do with this film. The caption, "The Truth Will Finally Be Told," was knocked off of the whole "Ethan Haas was Right" confusion when the flick first came out.

  7. If you look at the DVD box cover, you can see that the colors at the base of the tentacles are the same colors in the Cloverfield teaser poster.

  9. I rented Transmorphers to make fun of it, and wow... we had to fast forward through it, the editing was so bad. it might have helped if half the laser battle(s?) had actually had lights put in, as opposed to a guy shaking his gun as if there was recoil.

  13. guesstimate you can't include the words redneck, probability, and statistics in the same sentence. You'll cause some sort of rift in the time-space continuum and !!! sdhf!!!skjtwae f fs s;dl;t!!wsfls n,fllsld ....... .. .. .. . . . .. .

  14. Too bad they couldn't have waited and come up with a title like "Cloverdale".

That also reminds me of whatever animation studio that was that always made an adaptation of whatever story Disney was adapting at the time.

  15. I laugh everytime I go to the video store and see all these off title movies like that, because that is the only place I ever even hear of them. Now I see its the same Summers Eve fluid containment system people doing them all.

  16. OMG, ok so I just finished watching the trailer for Monster... wow. Such a rip off, but really bad. People running, shaky camera, screaming, People yelling "what is that?" and "ruuuuun", people hiding in what looks like a tunnel. The special effect are really bad, oh, and instead of the statue of liberty head thrown... a car gets thrown. Yeah, how scary *cough cough*

  17. The sad part is: in Mexico, the marketing team actually decided to give Cloverfield the subtitle of "Mounstruo" (Monster).

  18. OMG!!! the trailer was garbage. if you watch the trailer listen carefully..... they completely stole the monsters roar!!! its a combo of the roar from the 1-18-08 site (after 6 min) and the roar from the teaser. this was absolute garbage.
