James Pethokoukis, the assistant managing editor for the Money & Business section at U.S. News & World Report, has some interesting predictions for 2008, one of which is:
• The most profitable film will be the monster movie Cloverfield. The key word here of course is "profitable". While other movies are likely to gross more money at the box office, their productions cost will also be much higher. Compare Cloverfield's estimated $30 million budget to The Dark Knight, which has an estimated budget of $150 million, and who knows how much Indiana Jones 4 will cost to make! I am confident however, that Cloverfield will do far better than a certain other $30 million movie - Snakes On A Place.
